I bought a set of Taylor Made P790s, stiff shaft 120g and I have to ask what else was customized.

I was testing the AP3 and ping i500 for months before finally deciding to just go and get fitted and see what the experts say. I told them I didn't want to know what I was hitting because I was already predisposed to the A3. I'm replacing an extremely old set of DCIs that I've had for over 20 years.

You hit off a Matt onto the range and they have the Trackman data as well. I tried the AP1, AP3, G400, I500 & I think ping club as well as one that I don't remember who made it. When I hit the P790s there was a noticeable difference in consistency. After trying a couple different shafts we narrowed it down and I'm looking forward to trying them on a few weeks!!

Oh and a GolfBuddy LR5 rangefinder! I'm stepping into the 2000s, albeit a bit late 😂. I'm excited to use it

Any tips on fitting myself for clubs?

went to the pga store the other day and the "fitter"/salesperson was pretty useless.

felt like I had tightest dispersion and best feel with ping i200s (black dot) with project x 6.0 shaft. but a lot of the clubs and shafts felt pretty decent in the store.

Big box stores are pretty worthless as far as fittings go. I'm sure there are some decent ones out there but not many. I always saw if you are going to invest in $1k in new equipment, what's another $300 to get properly fit?

I'm an equipment nut and have gone through enough fittings on Trackman to know what I need, but I will still go through a fitting ob my next iron purchase.

My first fitting was off a Matt into a net at golf Galaxy. The guy was more of a Salesman than anything and I wasn't really comfortable with the experience so I went to a place that will let you try the clubs for free and they have every single current model. I spent a couple months there on the weekends before realizing I was just confusing myself and then I found another place that got good reviews and ended up buying from them after a 2 day fitting process. It was $100 and the cost went towards the clubs. I hope you have the same luck.

Ping just released the i210's to replace the 200's.

Finding a quality fitter is difficult. Consult the Golf Digest Top 100 Clubfitters for a starting point, but that's in no way a guarantee.

I just bought a Taylor Made r-9 Driver and a Taylor Made Glove, I absolutely love this. Should shed a few strokes off this year with my new purchase.

I loved my R9, used it until 2016 myself. Loved how it was shaped like a bullet. I think you can find used drivers from more recent years (2013-16) for pretty good deals too

Not what I bought but what I gave away. Took my stash of golf balls (found and/or no longer use myself) along with an old bag with 6 or 7 clubs to the First Tee of Clearwater. Never been over there and they actually have a Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy there. Looks like a fully functioning school. Cool to see!
