Thats what I was thinking. For whatever reason didnt think a low hdcp would be rocking lesser brand irons. Maybe thats just a mental thing.

*edit* I have the gunmetal 1iron for lolz. Used to smash the **** out of it off the tee but I haven't taken it out of the closet in some years now that I set my ego down and got some clubs that are easier to hit.

Correct. Cleveland TA-1s

My favorite description of them that I read online are that they are "exceptionally unforgiving". I've played them since I was 16 (I'm 27 now). Favorite irons in the world, but I've considered going to something more forgiving since my frequency of play has drastically dropped off.

When I comes time to buy new irons (when I get caught up on life bills) I'll get rid of my mp33s and go to a slight cavity. I still find the sweetspot but I know I'm leaving money on the table, so to speak.

That's kinda how I feel.

I LOVE the look of the blades though, so I am clinging on to them as long as I can.

Definitely a leak though...

So I'm looking to become addicted to golf again (years ago I was a bit better than scratch) ... I've been completely out of the loop when it comes to clubs for the past 10+ years. Currently leaning towards Mizuno MP-64's or the MP-H4 irons. Any thoughts of these or suggestions of what else is good out there?

What's your budget?
What are you looking for in a club?
What clubs did you hit before?
What do you think your hcp is now?
And welcome back?

RBZ 10.5° driver, stiff shaft, used from Golfsmith for $110. It's set at standard loft. I guess I'll try to get the doohickey to adjust it (not sure exactly how the adjustments work) so that I can close the face a little and try to counteract my fade/slice. But it's already giving me way more distance than my crappy old driver (and if I fix my crappy swing, I'll hit it even farther). Love it.

Also bought an RBZ 3-wood for $70. I saw that it said M--does that mean medium? Guy at the checkout says it's a senior shaft. I didn't notice until I got checkout and the driver and 3-wood were side by side that the 3-wood seemed really, really short. I picked up the club and it felt okay, though. Counter guy says it's short enough that being less stiff shouldn't really matter. I considered not buying it because it seemed so short, but I figured what the hell, what's another $70.

Sure enough, when I compared it to my old, old 5-wood, it's a decent bit shorter than the 5-wood! But I was hitting it farther than the 5-wood. If I had to estimate, I was hitting the driver about 230 on good hits (sometimes more with the wind) and 200 on mis-hit slices. 3-wood was going about 190, 5-wood maybe 170. (Yes, I suck. In my defense, I used to hit it farther. Probably some swing flaw I don't know about. I need more lessons. But I digress.)

Also, the 3-wood is 19°, which strikes me as bizarre. So I've got a 3-wood that's probably too short, not stiff enough, and too lofted. But the results are still pretty good. I can return it within the next ten days for 90% of the price back. Any suggestions? I'm leaning toward keeping it and making it into a de facto 5 wood if I end up picking up a longer, less lofted 3-wood. I guess I could also reshaft it, but that seems like more trouble than it'd be worth if I can pick up a used 5-wood for a comparable price.

Budget isn't really a concern. I grew up playing Hogan blades. Then I got a set of titleists when I was older - I still use them when I play once year.
I haven't had a handicap since I was a 6 handicapper when I was 15. Started again at age 27 and was shooting par or better within a month or two and became an assistant pro at a club in AZ. Quickly grew weary of members
Once a year I go to Hawaii and play daily on the big island at a Nicklaus course and end up shooting around 75 from the tips by the time I leave. Heading there Saturday and I'm seriously considering returning to playing regularly.
I'm 43 now.
I like the looks, feel of a blade style club.

This is a serious question: Are you sure you didn't get a 3 Hybrid? 19 degrees is what their 5W is lofted. The 3W-"High launch" is 17 degrees. (15 degrees for normal 3W).

That would explain everything, honestly. Here is a link to the Rescue: http://taylormadegolf.com/taylormade.../DW-JN781.html

Their 3 Hybrid is 19 degrees.

Also, the guy at the store was wrong about the shaft flex being stiffer than "medium". Unless they trimmed the shaft down, the flex of the shaft is generally specced out to that given production length.

Can't stand my amp cell cobra fairway wood and picked up a used Nike 3q dymo 3 wood, so anyone want a cobra red amp cell fairway wood?

The RBZ hybrid heads are definitely big enough to be confusable with the fairways.

LOL I'm an idiot. Yeah, it's the 3 rescue club. Makes me feel a lot better about hitting it 190.

pdxmike,
Check out the MP-59's as well. I just bought them a month ago and love them, after hitting MP-57s for the last 3-4 years.

Hey Mike, similar situation as you, an ex ok player scratch 20 years ago and a blade tragic. I’m using the Taylor Made Tour Preferred MB’s which I like a lot, I only play once a month or so and still find I get enough out of the many many miss hits to it get around OK. Can’t go wrong with the Mizuno’s but another option for you to look at, Good luck.

I played with a rental set of Taylor Mades a couple years ago. They were great.
Guy at shop showed me the current Taylor Mades and they were all these giant cavity backed things... He said they stopped making any blade-style clubs a few years ago.. They were initially my first choice...

If you don't like the look, you don't like the look; however, I would get over that if I were you. Cavity backed irons are more forgiving, and no one should be above forgiving clubs unless they're a pro or a ~scratch player IMO.

Just ask Rocco Mediate!

Well, there's a difference between a game improvement cavity back and a "better player styled" cavity back. Not to mention most game improvement irons have some sort of offset hosel type stuff going on.
