Really excited about this one - I hit one of the best drives I've ever hit in my life after demo-guy had made some adjustments to it. I've always hit my driver pretty slowly because I can't really swing it fast without getting a monster slice, but it felt like I could pound this a lot harder and still have it go reasonably straight.

Will have to try it for a while longer before I know if it's just a 'new club effect', but it felt so amazingly different from my current driver, that I'm pretty sure it will be a significant improvement.
I have this driver as well. Having a lot of fun with it.

Today I just bought the Aeroburner #3 hybrid after hitting in the launch monitor for a bit. Even my misfits were carrying 200 yards, so that's a keeper, lol.

Getting a 12.5 slider mini driver Nunchuk shaft

Adams cb3 forged 4-gap with Nunchuk xi shafts

Has anyone played the CB's or the nunchuks.

Thanks

Ball question. Just throwing this question in the equipment thread.

Anyone else with a driver clubhead speed around 95-100 find that the Bridgestone B330RXS is longer than the Pro V1s? I seem to be getting at least 5 more yards on my irons and 10 on my driver. It bites as well from 100+ out but does not check as predictably as the ProV1 from 25-60 yards.

Game Golf arrived (via Fed Ex) almost exactly 48 hours after I placed the order. It originated in St. Paul and I live couple hours east of Chicago so it didn't have far to go. Set up was simple plug and play, it did take me a half hour or so to set my bag up as I have a hodgepodge set of old name brand (too old to be in the pre loaded DB) and mass merchant irons that I had to manually type in. Overcast and damp today, but will get some data tomorrow!!

I've been wanting to pull the trigger on the Game Golf since December but just couldn't do it. And after reading this review/article:
http://breakingeighty.com/game-golf-review

I think I'm going to wait for version 2 to come out--looks like they have a lot of kinks to work through, but not 100% sure. (read the comments in that link for other useful reviews)

I may be looking to much into it, and this device seems too good to be true; a review from you guys itt would be much appreciated.

Arccos Golf seems like a legit contender for this market. A little pricier and AFAIK, only comptabable with Apple products, but seems to be a very solid product all the way through.

Welp, after 1 round, I'm not quite sure yet. Not sure when it happened, it was a long time ago, but the course I played switched some holes around.

As a result Game Golf had me playing 2 different 12 and 13 holes and not playing 14 and 15. I have not found out how to edit that. Also not sure if I did or didn't do something but it recorded the first 3 holes separate from the next 6 on the front 9. It had all 18 holes but it wasn't listed as 1 round but as 5.

If you are a high handicapper (like me) I don't see you getting much use out of this at your (our) current level. I mean it tells me what I already know. I spray it all over and hit some duffy chips. If you are say a 10 and are willing to work it will/could help you.

Feel free to ask away. Warming trend this week so hope to get out more and see what happens.

All,

~25 handicap currently, but I've really just got back into golfing/practicing regularly the last year or so.

I'm currently playing a set of Titleist DCI Oversize irons I bought new in ~2000. I'm at a point where I need to regrip them and I'm wondering if it is worth it, or if I should just upgrade to something newer? How much more forgiving is a newer set going to be? I've really liked these clubs so I was thinking of going with a used set of something like a Titleist 710-714 AP1?

There have been a lot of tech advances in golf products over the past 15 years; if you're looking for forgiving clubs, you have a lot to choose from. I tested out about 7 different brands last year before settling on my Callaway Apex irons, and suggest you do the same. (test them out yourself, and bring your current 6 or 7 iron with you)

Fwiw, the most forgiving clubs I tested were the Ping Karstens.

This. Bring yours to compare to as many different sets as you can try out. You'll find 1 or 2 that you keep going back to because they just feel so much better. Those are the ones you want.

I don't think most forgiving is my only criteria. Probably looking for something balanced that will reward good swings, provides some work-ability and is somewhat forgiving. Something that would support growth in my game as well as help me perform right now.

I'll try that. Thanks guys.

i play the ping karstens, give them a chance. greatly improved my game. i will concede very very little workability, you really really need to focus on exaggerating your swing plane if you want a draw or fade.

tl/dr - lots of angst over terrible experiences trying to buy new wedges. Would love people's thoughts on what I should do:

I have needed new wedges for quite awhile now. My current wedge is a 54 Ping blade from about 6 years ago that has no check on it anymore.

But I have had terrible luck in the various places I've asked for help. In every case, someone who doesn't seem very knowledgable puts their favorite club in my hand and tells me that's the right one for me, without asking anything about my game.

I have questions that I don't think are stupid like:
"what factors should influence what bounce I pick?"
or "I hit irons that are bent upright a few degrees, should I get my new wedges bent to match?"

But when I ask them, I've been getting rushed or obviously uninformed answers. I know you might be reading between the lines that I'm a difficult customer, or something, but I promise you that's not the case. I don't know what I'm doing that's giving off the vibe of "this guy's a 40 handicapper, I'll just sell him one of last year's game improvement 58s from Cleveland for full price". But that's what has happened to me!

Today I went into a store with an indoor range and a huge selection, hoping for a more proper fitting or some guidance. What I got was a early 20s guy who immediately handed me a Vokey 60, said "this is what I play" and didn't really seem to be able to explain why he picked the 7 degree bounce instead of the 10 or why he grabbed the S grind instead of one of the other grinds. From looking at the Vokey site, it seems that the options he picked for me are kind of average options for golfers whose swing isn't particularly shallow or steep and who don't play on particularly soft or hard conditions normally. That seems to depict me, I guess, but I kind of would have liked that information in the store where I was contemplating spending $400 on three metal sticks, you know?

So, I ended up buying the Vokeys today, but with the intention of returning them if there is a different consensus on here about what I should do. I found a bag of demo Vokeyss in the shop and hit them and it felt pretty good, I guess, but off mats and with my kid behind me in a stroller watching dinosaur cartoons.

Do I need to worry about bending the clubs, or getting the right shaft for my swing or about cutting the club shorter? (I have super-long arms for my height, so I have a putter that's shortened by an inch, but I think my irons play at their standard lengths.)

Gosh, if anybody can give me some help, I might have followups about how to gap my bag to incorporate a new wedge at the bottom.

Scalp,
You may get better advice, but I would recommend going to a few demo days at local courses/ranges. There you should find experienced help from the club manufacturer. The drawback is that you will be limited to one manufacturer, but at least have someone to speak to that would know their product inside and out.

Maybe narrow it down to two manufactures through online research, then find where their next demo day is in your area and meet with their rep.

If you've been playing that other wedge for 6 years and hit it solid, then definately go with its length and lie angle. If you don't know any better why not go with the Vokey site's recommendation of digger: high bounce, slider: low bounce.

Found a crack in my old Cobra Amp driver a few rounds ago so I went and pulled the trigger on this guy yesterday.

Demo'd this and an SLDR. The SLDR sounded better, but I liked the results of this one. Hopefully it transfers to the course!

Just bought a Taylor Made Aero Burner 3 wood. I tried a few on the simulator and this was the best but also the mist expensive at 169 gbp. I got greatest distance with it (236 yards best) and seemed to control accuracy better. Excited to try it on the course on Monday as I've not had a 3w in my bag for a while, I've been managing instead with my 4 iron (favourite club) and Ping G2 hybrid.

Wedges should be bent a little flatter than your irons IMO.

Doing a wedge fitting on mats seems like a pretty bad idea. Find a place where you can try them on grass and out of bunkers you typically play.

Picked up some custom fit AP2's. I'm finally on point with my irons. Hitting a solid cut on every shot. Feels great when you finally find the form that works for you.

Significant improvement confirmed.

I love this club - it's absolutely amazing.

Probably also because my previous driver was off-the-shelf while this one was fitted to me, but I'm just amazed at how my most feared club is now one of my most safe ones. Any half decent hit now ends up good (or at least ok) and the good hits are great.

The sensation when you know you've just hit a shot that's gone way right and you'll never find again and then look up to see that it's still somehow reasonably straight and in the fairway (or at least first cut) is just surreal.
