Finally got a chance to game my new Taylormade Stealth Plus on a course/non-simulator yesterday. The thing is a beast. It doesn't really play any longer than my last driver, a Callaway Epic Flash Subzero, but at a ~100 mph swing speed, anywhere on the face within reason was 250+ yards and on the fairway/first cut.

And how did that compare with the results you saw with the Callaway? Are you saying there's not much difference? Was that $600 or around $1,000? I thought I saw it at around $1,000 the other day, but now I'm seeing about $600.

Same distance and better dispersion compared to the callaway. I got my stealth for <$400.

So I didn't necessarily "buy" a new wedge. I "made" a new wedge. I've mentioned before that I suffer from the chipping yips. Any time I possibly can I use my long putter around the green. Sooooooooo........

I took an old 56 degree wedge and had the shaft extended to more or less match the length of my putter. I tried it out last Sunday and it didn't work (was just way too light compared to my putter). And it was missing another grip where my right hand would be. Solution:

I wrapped a ton of painters tape around it to form another grip. I then added two rolls of lead tape to try to match weight of my long putter. Tried it out in the living room yesterday and it felt more natural. Will try it on the course tomorrow.

No I'm not kidding about any of this. Maybe I'll post a pic of Frankenstein's wedge later.

Currently trying out a new Ping "fetch" putter. Man I like the way this thing feels. Perfect weight, love the grip, great for a straight-back/straight-through stroke. Added bonus: the cool hole in the bottom for picking up the ball. Gonna game it on the course this weekend and see how it goes. Not sure I can bring myself to spend +$250 on a putter but this is really nice.

I just bought a Stealth 3 wood had a little paint chip on the bottom on 1 of the graphics managed to haggle it down to a decent price.

When I went and got fit this is the only club we couldn't find a good fit for me as I was hitting it like ass. So instead I got 2 Tsi2 Hybrids one of which I used on the course twice so just going to get rid of it and probably put in a 4 iron down the line. If I'm honest I think he just chucked in another hybrid just for the fun of it, As much as I like everything that he gave me the hybrids felt like lets just chuck these in there.

i will never bin my 3w because there's no sweeter feeling for me than a pure 3w approach into a par 5 green. i don't hit them often

I actually hear a lot of people say that about their woods, I'm yet to find one been playing around with 3 or 4 past year or so and they've been ok but nothing special, Saying that most of them are are hand me downs and not the greatest models.

Got my first club fitting ever yesterday!!!!

In 4 to 6 weeks I will have a new set of Ping i525 irons, U wedge to 5.
2 degrees upright
retro lofts (2 degrees weak)
Old man Graphite ALTA CB 70R shafts
Dri Tac reg grips

My first forged irons!! Currently have TM Rsi1s

Note, I went with retro lofts for a (relatively) higher launch angle and more spin. Also 5 and 6 irons coming in to greens will be steeper. That the U wedge will be 52 is nice, as I have 56 and 60 Vokey wedges.

FYI my 7 iron clubhead speed was ave around 73 and my ball speed was around 103 IIRC. So, I am not a long hitter obv..

I tried the TM P790s but the head felt too light and I had no feel. A 141 yard 7 iron felt the same as 152. i525s had a tight dispersion (distance and direction) and the head felt heavier and feedback was better.

Also got a new shaft for my M2 Driver head. My swing speed is 95 and dropping as I get older. The Shaft is a Fujikura Air Speeder 45 R. It is tough to find the specs on this one (I can find info on the 40 R). I think they took it from a TM Stealth Driver..

My carry distance is about 12 yards longer with it but I hope I can be consistent with direction as it is whippy near the bottom. It is high launch.

My old shaft (still have it) is a Fujikura PRO 56 R

New toys!!!

Recently did a full bag (-putter) fitting at club champion - would never have paid full price, but saw a $100 deal maybe a month ago, and figured even if I didn't buy anything, 3+ hours of dedicated trackman time would be worth it.

I currently have a Cobra 10.5* F9+ with a NV 65-x I've always had a super high ball flight just getting murdered in the wind, and thought it was because of spin. Turns out while I've lost some swing speed since my college days/the last time I got fit, I've really improved how I present the club at impact (6-8 degrees upward angle of attack) leading to 20+ degrees of dynamic loft between the shaft + 10.5* head

Got fitted to a Rogue St Max LS 8.5* with a Fuji Ventus Black w/ Velocore 6x - an almost $1100 setup o_O

I'm playing maybe once a week so wasn't ready to drop that (nor the $4800 for the whole bag) so I found an 8.5* Epic Flash subzero with a HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 6.5 for less than a quarter of the price elsewhere. I haven't really kept up with the latest in drivers, seems like there's really not much difference in anything out since 2019 or so?

The rest of the bag was interesting too, couldn't really improve my dispersion on my irons, but I was hitting anything new nearly two clubs longer with SteelFiber FC115 CWs. Again, those were a $115 each upcharge o_O. Probably part juiced lofts, part me being too washed for tour weight steel in my current gamers, part better launch dynamics from the steelfibers

My 3 wood is my oldest club in the bag (original tour edge exotics) and was amazed at how much further I was hitting the rogue st and stealth plus 3ws, with Ventus black 7x

I've never gotten along with hybrids, but the fitter was able to set me up with a T-200 3iron with a ventus black 7x, the first time I've hit a modern long iron with a fairway wood shaft. I am going to put something similar together.

My fitter was great (Jake in Bedford if you're in MA) and I think I certainly got my $100 worth, but maybe wish I would have been more straight up with my budget limitations as now I'm playing a little bit of a guessing game when shopping used. Definitely exited to try the new big stick out

I just ordered a Stealth 4 Iron same set up as I got fitted for, striking my irons pretty well at the moment like I think I've gained a club or so in distance, So figured a 4 iron might help me out. Just feel like I can do more with a iron over a Hybrid.

I bought a 3 hybrid last year and it's mainly stayed in the garage this year. The club head just looks so tiny. Much better results with either a 4 iron or 5 wood. And I know the 4 iron club head is smaller than the hybrid, but to me it just looks like any other iron.

I wrote out a rambling post, but it seems like you probably need a new driver and 3 wood more than anything else. Ventus 6x black new is I think $350, and that head shouldn't run more than like $550. If you have any local golf shops or builders they'd probably do it for $100 off the combo price maybe +$50 for build/grip.. so $850. Some online builders would do it for cheaper too. $1100 is a considerable surcharge. SST pure is useless. Consider if it's worth the aggravation to save $150-250 vs just ordering and forgetting.

I just got the new callaway rogue ls 3w, and am incredibly impressed with it vs the stealth 3w I've had since february. The new callaway woods this year are really good.

If I were gonna get an older model driver, I think a lot of the callaway stuff would play somewhat similarly, but I think the mavrik sub zero is probably where I'd cut off (it was better than epic flash imo). If I got a mavrik sub zero head or whatever I'd probably make sure it was a ventus black shaft.. it would probably be somewhat similar to the one you demo'd. Smoke black rdx is a good shaft, but not really the same profile as the ventus. You might be surprised.

Yeah for me it's more the hybrid just goes to high, I cannot really predict the flight on it. Sometimes it will come out floaty and then other times it will come out like a bullet, Obv that's me delivering the club but I feel like with a Iron I can just predict it a bit better.

I had a Tsi2 hybrid and it's a stunning looking club as it had a black shaft and black grip to go along with the black head don't really mind size's of head's it's never a thought that has crossed my mind when hitting clubs.

Definitely a lot to unpack here, glad you got to have your eyes opened with what can be done these days with fitting.

First off, there are tons of differences between driver heads even in the last 3 years. When a model changes, it basically changes everything. Example, an Epic Flash Sub is completely different from a Rogue Max. A Ping G425 is very similar to a Ping G410. All of these driver heads are good, the question is if a specific driver head is good for you.

So you switched both head and shaft from what you were fitted for. But here's the ultimate kicker that very few outside the business know. A HZRDUS shaft that comes stock with a driver is not even close to the same HZRDUS shaft that you might get fitted for and then procured straight from True Temper. A stock HZRDUS shaft contains much less carbon and the quality control is not the same. The stock shafts are made cheaply for the club companies. This is why there is no upcharge for a lot of stock shafts but if purchased from the manufacturer can be several hundred dollars.

Something to know, as a general rule, Callaway drivers and fairway woods are the highest spinning on the market due to the carbon composite crowns which weigh less and cause spin. As I mentioned, they are good clubs, just something to keep in mind.

Aerotech SteelFiber shafts are an awesome compromise for good players who might be getting older. The consistency of steel with the softness of graphite. There is no comparable substitute on the market.

Regarding the utility iron shaft, technically it's not a fairway wood shaft, rather a hybrid shaft which usually has a wider tip. Occasionally a builder can have issues trimming the tip in order to fit a utility iron. Little things like this is where a good builder is important.

I hope the driver setup works well for you. But I do get frustrated when players want to get properly fit and then think they can perfectly replicate everything much cheaper. You can't. From the materials to the build. You just can't.

We're going to have to agree to disagree here. From a personal perspective, I can tell a noticeable difference in a driver/FW/hybrid graphite shaft that has been pured vs. one that has not. It's a must in those shafts. Steel iron shafts aren't a huge deal one way or another, graphite iron shafts can definitely make a difference but I wouldn't say it's an absolute must.

From a professional perspective, I've had multiple sit downs with Dick Weiss, the inventor and founder of SST Pure. There is a reason why all tour players have it done. If you're willing to spend hundreds of dollar on a graphite shaft, it doesn't make sense not to spend an additional 30 to get it pured.

Cobra LTDx Max driver head

Did an outdoor driver fitting at True Spec a few weeks ago and ended up not purchasing anything as nothing I tested was really any better than what I had; mostly due to my **** driving ability I think.

Suggestion was Callaway Rogue ST Max with a Accra TZ6 shaft. My Cobra LTD (original) with Oban Devotion HB seemed to be a slightly tighter dispersion and essentially the same distance

Did test the Cobra LTDx Max head with that same Accra shaft and it was interesting so I found a LTDx Max head on Ebay to pair with my Oban shaft to see how it goes as the adapter is the same

One range session so far the head feels incredibly forgiving; seems to hardly spin and I didn't/couldn't hit a big miss, which is amazing for me. With range balls the distance didn't feel or look as good as my gamer but I will sacrifice a little distance to stay on the golf course. Excited to try it out on the course sometime soon.

Also got some new kicks....My last pair is finally on it last legs so we'll see how these are. I like to get out and walk 9, so comfort for walking is a big deal for me and my last pair of sketcher was SUPER comfortable. Will report back when I've had a chance to put a few miles on them.
