You can tell based on the style of the font where it says ProV1 or ProV1X. Granted you have to know what they exact styles are too.

So the 2017 Prov1 is not the ball with less spin, correct?

The 2017 ProV1 has less spin than the 2017 ProV1x.

2015 ProV1x=2017 ProV1
2015 ProV1=2017 ProV1x

My handicap is around 10 and I have been playing the Bridgestone E6 for the past 1.5 years. Supposedly this ball goes straighter. Not sure if that is real or just marketing hype but the ball feels decent to me and it isn't too expensive. I figure the once or twice a round where I slice it toward OB and it just stays in (assuming the ball actually slices less) is worth way more shots than getting the ball to stop quicker on the green or something like that.

The e6 is a solid golf ball. I played it when I first started playing again. Good combo of low spin and cheap.

I think these days most balls are made to spin less off of the driver (true or not, meh). Premium golf balls will give you the extra spin around the green on the < 100% swings which helps a lot, at least to me.

If you want a true no spin ball that will go straight look for the old Pinnacle Gold's. It will not curve on you and absolutely will not stop on the green. My go to ball for scrambles, however they are hard to find these days.

Years ago I had a friend that worked for Foot Joy tell me back in the day the Pinnacle Gold and the Titleist DT 100 came off the same production line and were just stamped differently.

I'm willing to bet every Titleist/Pinnacle ball comes off the same production line.
They change the materials, molds and dies to make different types of balls but they most likely don't change the tooling process.

Unlikely, since Acushnet owns four golf ball manufacturing facilities. ...

(post really needs an emoticon to show that I'm being facetious)

What he inferred was that the balls were the same just stamped differently. I never looked hard enough to see where the Pinnacle ball was produced. But it wouldn't shock me. That was 20-25 years ago mind you.

I wonder if there are any old timers on here that played the original DT 100's that have transitioned to the new age balls. If so - any recommendations.

I use the Vice Tour ball. I got 5 dozen a year and a half ago and find them similar to like a Bridgestone B330 or so. Solid, Durable, Feel.

I like.

In high school I played with persimmon woods, blades, and balata's. So yeah I'm from the DT era.

I never, ever buy new golf balls. Always buy them used online. Sure some of them might have been submerged for a while, but to be honest I've never had a bad apple. I think I use lostgolfballs.com and have bought Bridgestone and Taylormade balls on the site. But often times I find so many ProV1's on the course I havent had to buy golf balls in years.
