yeah I just can't let my swing go from those multiple deck driving ranges...short shorts and iron shots are usually okay and driver I just get so tentative. no issues on elevated tee boxes during a round of golf but for some reason I just get tripped out.

Safe to assume we won't see these in Southern California due to perfect year round conditions?

One is slated for Orange county somewhere. It really is not a competitor of real golf so year round weather just helps them. The crowd is over half people who have never played nor would ever play actual golf.

It's pretty crazy to watch actually, it really makes you realize simply getting a ball airborne just isn't that hard. And all people apparently enjoy hitting balls and drinking, who knew.

Opened a couple of weeks ago in Talking Stick. Someone I know who isn't much of a golfer went and said they had a great time. For some reason I thought it wasn't opening until next year. Looking forward to checking it out soon.

The pricing seems incredibly steep, no? $45/hr at night is definitely not cheap for what I imagine is ~100 swings between however many people you have. Is that about how many balls you get to hit or am I way off in my estimation.

The one in Gilbert is scheduled to open spring 2015. Might be what your thinking of.

You just have to gamble for more to subsidize the cost :P

Went to the new one in the Atlanta suburbs the other night. We had 5 people and stayed for 2 hours so $90. It was a good time, I'd probably prefer if there were less people so you got more swings but I would say we averaged 40-50 shots per person and played a few different games tho we only "finished" one game.

Overall a pretty decent time, and not too bad at about $20/person for the golf portion.

With respect to competing with actual golf, I would imagine Top Golf can for sure cut into the market share of golf courses hosting corporate outings. Gotta imagine more people would go to Top Golf than to an actual scramble or something so this can potentially cut into local golf course revenues.

Played the one in Chicago last weekend. Meh. Would have liked it more if the power hadn't gone out. Also they made three of us split the fish bowls :/

Chicago is one of the original locations and nothing like the final product they are building now. The complete package is a pretty solid complete entertainment facility.

What clubs should I bring? Irons only? I'm going for the first time tomorrow.

If you're going socially just use the clubs they provide and have fun.

If you're going to work on your game save some money by going to a regular driving range. You're elevated, hitting balls that aren't "real" (they have RFID chips in them) and hitting off a mat - prob not the most efficient practice conditions.

It's akin to bringing your putter to putt-putt - all IMO, of course

Ha, I used to do that when I was a kid (10-13ish age range).

I agree about the balls you use there. Highest spinning "ball" I have ever hit.

Our bay was on the ground floor, so no elevation. Brought my 7-iron, a hybrid and pitching wedge, though I saw some guys with their entire bag. Tees were really low, so it wasn't good for driving. Experience was OK on the range, except for the stupid targets, which stop good shots from getting any rollout.

Restaurant was awful. Waited over an hour for our food, which never arrived, then when we decided to leave, they tried to charge us for the orders that were never delivered. Had to get a manager to void the bill.

Will not be going back.

You can't hit driver at most of them unless you are old and hit driver 200 tops.

The one i went to in Atlanta had regular flex graphite shaft irons, they were almost unusable for me as a 6'5" guy with a high swing speed. I would have definitely had more fun with a few of my own irons, I wouldn't bring my entire bag though.
