What would y'all make for odds that he wins a FedEx Cup points awarding event in 2017 or 2018?

I don't see him playing this year but it doesn't mean it is over over.

So much work for him to get back. I just don't see him doing it to make or break cutline. I also don't think he can just relax after being programmed as robo-golfer from birth. Hard wired. Maybe he can get his amateur status back and win club championships.

Saw his interview on ESPN. Sounds unbelievably defeated. Almost sounds retired. Golf is just part of his life.

Saw him on GMA. Seemed in good spirits but man, seems like he aged 20 years overnight. Looks 60. Might be the hair. Time to shave it off.

Scott Van Pelt kept saying the same thing over repeatedly. Time to shave it all off.

He does look old. He said once you go with the knife on the back, there is no turning back. The rest of his life he will live in pain. And he has had three back surgeries.

He didn't sound like an athlete looking to come back.

Tiger was awesome for his run but it's over and it ended so damn quick it's sad. He might never really ever get the send off that all the legends ever get. His send off might be hitting the first putt at Augusta if they change it to that for him. Sad sad deal

What do you mean by this? I know retirement isn't the same in golf as it is in other sports, there probably wont be a speech and a ceremony. But when he does hang it up it will be end of the most famous golfer there has ever, and will ever be. I'd imagine it will be a big arse deal.

Really can't see him doing what Arnie and jack have done though, although of course he could, it just kinda seems like they had to come back for the majors etc a lot to get the free exposure to sell their golf course names and whatever else, that's how they got all their money. When Arnie died I was surprised to see something about his net worth being 600 million +.

He will go down as arguably the best and most famous golfer. Hard to be #1 when you are 4 majors behind what your life goal was and seemed poised to get to 25.

Arnold Palmer really opened up golf to the world. Tiger and Jack rode off his coattails.

I didn't say he was the best, even though I do think that. If you're insinuating Arnie will go down as the more famous golfer that's insanity.

No, Arnie won't. A lot of it is due to recency bias. The vast majority of us never got to see Arnold Palmer or even Jack Nicklaus play great golf live.

The amount of tv and news exposure was a fraction of what is today. Arnold created golf as a something even to watch on tv. He made "The Open" an international event.

Tiger had undoubtedly the best run ever...for a period of time. Arnold Palmer had a career which includes the Senior Tour. Single handedly brought that to life. Jack won the Masters at 46.

Tiger, in my own personal opinion, has to win again to inarguably been known as best ever.

**Before Palmer came over to play in 1960, the British Open had fallen off the radar of American professional golf. Just a year before, at Muirfield in 1959, no American golf pros were in the field. Their reasons were simple: It was far away and it wasn't that profitable, even if you won (the purse was $1,250 versus the U.S. Open's $14,400).**

Arnold parted the ways for el tigre.

I still blame that 4 shot swing for ruining golf as I knew and loved it. Just not the same without him despite what the detractors say.

His bragging about not putting it same spot b/c he was worried about hitting pin was the end. As well as him not WDing for signing wrong scorecard.

Woods won three tournaments leading up to the Masters in 2013.

Tiger had conditioned everyone to think that if hes not winning majors he's playing terrible, so people love to forget about his 2013 year, he had 5 wins and won POTY, he also won 3 times in 2012.

Pretty much this. One pro said it is silly that everyone plays pretty much every event and that 4 tournaments count more than others.

Major being overvalued has made mini-stars out of players like Shaun Michel.

The focus on majors was good marketing by Jack Nicklaus. If he hadn't done that then Sneed may have been considered the best ever because he had more wins.
