Yeah, not surprised after he said he played against doctor's orders in the US Open.

I'll take the under on TV ratings for the British and PGA (which aren't run by the Tour anyway, but I digress).

And the Ryder Cup.

And the Fed Ex Cup playoff tournaments.

You could add ESPN, NBC, ABC and the Golf Channel.

If you mean PGA tour (not PGA of America), they are just thankful Tiger tees it up at their tournaments at all. He gets $2M just to get off the plane at foreign events...

So what's the recovery time for a stress fracture & ACL rehab? 9-10 months right? Does he even play in the Masters next year?

Thats a good point. I think Tiger is such a freak that he'll be back for the Masters even if his caddie has to carry him around the course.

He's 32 years old. What's the rush? Why take a chance screwing up the body that got you to the pinnacle of the game?

If he's not ready by Masters '09, he doesn't play. Simple as that.

One thing working for Tiger, he will not need to prepare much for the Masters, as he knows the course well. Similar to Torrey this year. If this year's U.S. Open were at a location less familiar to him, I doubt he would even have played.

Also, the Fed Ex Cup went from "irrelevant but new novelty that the public had questionable interest in" *with* Tiger involved to just "irrelevant" without him.

I don't think you can say the same about more established "brands" like the The Open and the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup, but the PGA is really going to have the wind taken out of its sails on the Fed Ex Cup this season. The winner is going to have an asterisk next to his name without Tiger involved, but that's even assuming most of golf's audience even cares who wins the Fed Ex Cup at all.

So he won the Buick, Matchplay, Palmer and the US Open. 5th at the WGC CA Championship and 2nd at the Masters.
Can you win the PGA Tour POY with only 6 starts? That'd be a huge finger to the rest of the tour, but does anyone really see anyone stepping up and beating those results the rest of the year? Phil could, I guess, since he already has two Ws, but he's the only other multiple winner on tour so far this year.

Unless somebody wins British + PGA Championship, Tiger has it locked up. Even then it would be a toss-up.

Maybe this is the opening that Parker McLachlin needs to catch fire and win the whole thing!!

Simple fact: Tiger is bigger than the PGA tour. Whatever tournament they roll out is just another golf tournament without Tiger.

Ryder cup will still mean a lot to the players, but golf has just left the radar for 2008.

Sad, but probably a whole lot of truth to this.

I have a feeling the guy who won this auction might be kind of pissed...

I'm sure all the people that said Tiger was hamming up his "injuried knee" for the cameras when he hit a bad shot at the US Open aren't reading this forum right now.

Except he did exactly that by playing in the US Open.

My guess is that:

1. He personally under-estimated the extent of the injury;
2. He had planned on playing Torrey all along;
3. He was comfortable enough playing Torrey with the extremely limited amount of preparation available to him.

(3) applies to Augusta, but (1) and (2) no longer apply. All bets are off at this point.

Recall he also planned on playing the Memorial, but later withdrew.

I was @ the final day of the US Open and Tiger was in a lot of pain between shots and Steve said to him with in ear shot of us on many occasions "keep stretching it out".
