They're playing six foursome matches in the second set and two foursomes and four fourbals in the third to get caught up. This changes the entire Cup since everyone will now have to play. Why do these idiots keep messing with the format? Who made the rule that it ends at 6:43 on Monday?

You play the format that you agreed to, and you end when everyone is done playing. If you can't do that, you shouldn't have chosen someplace that has frequent rain in the Fall and gets dark at 6:43.

I'm sure this was mentioned elsewhere, haven't read the thread, but wow, the US rain-gears are just awful, looks like what I wore when warming up for X-Country in high school

I was in Ireland in late September playing golf a few years ago.

If the weather was like that in Los Angeles, I wouldn't even go out and pick up my newspaper.

Sorry, but I have to laugh at all the posters bragging on their knowledge of Wales weather patterns. Please inform us all how much better this would have been in late September! Apparently everybody knows the jet stream jumps hundreds of miles on or about September 30th.

Look, as I mentioned upthread, I played golf in worse rain, wind, and cold in the UK in August. This could happen at any time of the year.

Ya srsly, thread was up for two weeks and no one said anything about the weather... now all of a sudden the even organizers are rtards.

My only problem is this event getting pushed back 3 or 4 weeks to accommodate the Fed Ex Cup playoffs. There is always a chance of rain but you would like to have as much daylight as possible if you are delayed in order to get as much golf in as possible

I would accept the daylight argument but there is one problem in your premise. The Ryder Cup was not pushed back 3-4 weeks, over the last 10-12 events, the majority of the dates were the last weekend in September. IIRC, 3 were a week before. So in reality, this Ryder Cup is being held 1 week later than usual.

Of course there was more daylight a week ago than there is now, but we can both agree it's a trivial amount.

- might be obv to most but i just read this so... the players that didn't play today will play a max of 3 matches. there can be no debate that the format of the competition was changed today.

- i hear that Sky/BBC are pressing hard for a Sunday finish.

- the forecast for Sunday's weather is poor... meaning a Monday finish is a possibility, maybe even better than a 50/50 possibility.

- i hope that TV interests don't sabotage the integrity of the 2010 Ryder Cup. i can already see the asterisk next to the winner's name.

- finally, let's really hope that a scenario where one side is up in score but losing the remaining matches out on the course on Monday sunset doesn't come to fruition.

They were saying today that Celtic Manor wanted it scheduled for 10th Sept. That was their plan when they won the right to host the Ryder Cup. Like you say though its not that much but it still irks me

Sky did an interview with an American Golf journalist during the rain delay and they were asking him if the PGA Tour should be blamed somewhat for it being played later than they originally thought.

Pretty sure they said 3 weeks unless I picked it up wrong or they had it wrong

this journalist squarely places the majority of the blame on the European Tour (for their all out money grab), with some blame put on Celtic Manor, for today's debacle.

during today's rain delay, about 30 miles away, 50 or 60 golfers were playing their rounds in the same weather at Royal Porthcawl.

All I have to go by is the previous dates for the event. Since 1989 the earliest it had started was on the 17th, the latest was on the 27th.
