No, but really. Here you go. The US team has been complaining about their rain suits all week. That came to a head today. The rain suits aren't waterproof, and apparently aren't doing much for warmth either. It looked like everyone was already soaked through basically before they even got on the course.

It is bad enough that the US Team just bought suits from the merchandise tent and will be wearing generic Ryder Cup stuff now with the European Ryder Cup logo on when play resumes. Just a huge mistake by someone (Pavin?).

I was serious, I have been watching every minute of the coverage here in Denmark and I haven't heard that mentioned at all.

Doubt Pavin sorted a deal out with Sun for this, i imagine he just had input on designs. Reckon PGA of A sorted the actual deal out.

It's funny how regional coverage works. Definitely been a major talking point here in the US.

As to who is to blame? It's Pavin. For a couple of reasons. First, the initial selection of the suits. At the end of the day he has final say on this stuff. But it's not like Sun Mountain is a no name company, so he probably shouldn't be faulted too much for going with them. The real reason I am blaming him is because they had a chance to remedy this earlier in the week. The players have been unhappy with the suits since Monday. If that is the case I put 100% of the blame on Pavin for not making a change. Nike or FJ or whoever could have had full logo'ed gear over in less then 24 hours. Just a huge mistake in not making a switch.

You got a source on this? I find it hard to believe that they would halve matches regardless of who is ahead.

Here is the worst-case scenario: If play continues until the end of day on Monday, the team leading all concluded matches at 6:43 p.m. (sundown) will be champion, as all incomplete matches will be considered halved.

I've also heard talk that one of the sessions may be eliminated, but there is some dissention between the U.S. and Europe as to which session that would be. Certainly four-balls makes more sense, since it takes so much longer to play, but I think this would only be a last-resort type of option.

Wish I had more conclusive info for you, but that's what we know right now.

100% on Pavin. Don't get cute... give Nike or FJ the contract. This oversight could easily cost the USA the Cup (if play is shortened these Friday AM matches are super, super critical). Ughhh.


The Americans will come back to the course with new rain suits. Several players complained that the rain suits they had been wearing -- which featured their names and USA on the back -- were not repelling water.

PGA of America spokesman Julius Mason said Friday that officials went to the merchandise tent during the rain delay at Celtic Manor and snatched up as many suits as they could find.

The rain gear ordered by U.S. captain Corey Pavin was made by Sun Mountain. Mason says team officials were disappointed with how they worked, and bought new ones made by ProQuip. Mason says there were only enough for the players and caddies. The new suits have only a Ryder Cup logo -- the European Ryder Cup logo at that (there are separate ones for each team) -- without any special markings for a U.S. uniform.

"We were disappointed with the performance of them, and we just fixed it," Pavin said. "They were not doing what we wanted them to do, so we went out and bought some more waterproofs."

The Europeans couldn't resist poking a little fun at the Americans' plight.

"Just have to say our waterproofs are performing very well!" Rory McIlroy tweeted.

completely unacceptable to not have the rain gear thing straightened out by the first day of the tournament. Ok, so they made a mistake originally and the suits aren't up to snuff? Fine. They knew this during the practice rounds. Someone, somewhere, somehow has to have had that taken care of before play began.

also, haven't read the thread but am I the only one that thinks they should not have teed off at all? The conditions are absolutely awful.

Pretty noob question, but why the **** don't they hold this earlier. Everyone knows that the weather is terrible in October in Europe (Britain).
