When's the good year to go over to see it, like 2187 or something?

Reading a bunch of articles about the home course advantage of the host team and thinking about how to combat this massive advantage.

Obviously a different approach is necessary, perhaps a radical approach. I was reminded of Herb Brooks approach with the 1980 Olympic hockey team and a particular saying has always resonated with me. He told his assistant coach, "I'm not looking for the best players, I'm looking for the right ones".

Perhaps in 3+ years in preparation for Ireland, give all the PGA Tour players a psychological questionnaire among other things. Taking the same old vanilla players just doesn't work on foreign soil. I've got a couple of years to figure this out though.....

Justin Rose's comments today. I don't think any American playing in the Ryder Cup has the same feeling of playing for something bigger than yourself.

Maybe they could form a task force to figure this out?

What about some negative reinforcement? Like if any player who doesn't win at least 1 full point is ineligible for the next Ryder Cup. It would encourage people to scout the course ahead of time, not take a month off before the event, and come ready to play.

Seems like the long route to me. If you want to use reward/punishment, why not just require a commitment to spend x number of days at the site within six months (?) of the RC?

If a player doesn't sign on for that, thank you for coming.

I feel like the response after the US loses in Europe is always "Look how much the Europeans love each other and play as a team!" "Look at all these team building things and how much they cheer for each other!"

I doubt they just ignored the team building stuff in 2021 when they lost by 10 points.

-----------

I agree there's some toxicity on the US team room that just builds upon itself when they start losing, but I don't think there's a remedy other than playing better golf. I'm just not convinced that leaving Cantlay and Schauffele at home and taking Tony Finau and Eric Cole because they buy in to the team concept would produce any better results. At a certain point it's just down to who plays better golf, and the top of the European side just had way better form at this time than the US.

The Euros are better at the top and the vaunted depth that the US used to have is no longer.

I'm skeptical that different captains picks would have mattered. Is there really a material difference between Rickie and Keegan? Or at least a difference that could have been expected and known when the picks had to go in? I don't think so.

Frankly, the RC kinda sucks now. The TV coverage is ****ing dreadful and I don't like or dislike the players on one team more or less than the other.

Yes people looking for some magic when the reality is that the teams aren't that far apart at all and whoever shows up and plays best wins. Really not that hard
