I almost included Sawgrass...really nice facility and courses.

Have you played North Hampton? That's in the Yulee area in between Amelia and Jax. Great course.
Played North Hampton a couple months ago, was in great shape. About as close as we get to a links style course around here.

ABCC is private so you gotta hook up with someone I think. I know a few members so I've gotten on a couple times. Jonas Blixt is a member out there and Russell Knox plays out there a lot from what I hear. Pretty sweet course and practice area too.

have you played Shadow Ridge? Greatly enjoyed all the Faldo designed courses I've had a chance to play, including Wildfire in Scottsdale.

a synopsis of posts from my last Vegas golfing trip;

booked 7:58, aliante, friday morning, june 13. $19 through lastminutegolfer.com

three more spots available.

9:40 saturday, june 14; primm valley lakes course. $21.00. room for two more.

7:54, sunday, june 15, stallion mountain. $45.

siena, 8:24 monday, june 16. $35.

primm valley, lakes, was well worth the drive. very attractive lay-out, good condition. several memorable holes. good range. absolutely will return to play.

spanish trail - canyon. tuesday, june 17. $45

one and only round at stallion mountain. not a fan. greens in rough shape. some holes on the back that were awkwardly fit into the surrounding houses. repetitive.

badlands, 8:10, wednesday, $19.

badlands, 9 am, $21, thursday.

played badlands today. love the course. played 36. returning.

arroyo, $30, friday 8:40. sorry eck, badlands tee time got snagged.

painted desert, saturday, 11:15, $26.

primm lakes, sunday, 7:50, $27.

enjoyed arroyo. good condition, lots of room. interesting holes. missed all three eagle putts. guy in front of us shot 30 on the back...so they were really slow. will return.

arroyo, 7:40, $45, tuesday foursome with jstarda, eckenz, and CKBWoP.

i have an 11:20 booked today at las vegas national, $35. spots open.

at one time, long long ago, i can imagine las vegas national being a really fun place to spend an afternoon golfing. what a shame.

Jstarda teed his ball, swung his driver at the ball, hit the ball, then caught the ball in his right hand. Witnesses. Doubt I will ever see anyone do that again.

played snow paiute this afternoon. tough greens with all the sticky rough and fringe combined with high wind and hard fast greens. had some huge downwind drives. lots of fun. pricey.

8:20, thursday, badlands, $21. may play 36 tomorrow. lexington or bear's best in the afternoon.

11:31, friday, siena, $30. room for two more.

played 36 today. $21 at badlands, and $40 afternoon round at bear's best. really loving this course. gorgeous views, drive-able par 4's, two spectacular par fives on the back nine.

badlands, 8:10, monday, $21. room for two more.

I'll post details. You decide if you wish to join, book, show up.

Fwiw we are similar handicaps and I usually play the one ups most places, any 7200+ course is just pain IMO. Want to play during wsop? I'm out there 6 weeks
Yeah, hit me up when you're here!

Never played Rio Seco. I find TPC easier than BB for some reason...could be I just score better there. Cascata is definitely tough. Bad Lands is either a really good score or 6 lost balls for me. :d

belfast highlands greens
fox meadow
dundarave
crowbush
french river
eagles glen

crowbush is one of the top courses in the country. easily trumps the rest.

a quick ferry over to the cape, and you could play two of the finest courses anywhere, cabot links, and highlands links.

Yale GC - Used to play for $8 (as "student") when friends attended school here...a spectacular design from golden age, with some of the greatest holes you'll ever play.

Merion CC - Haven't played in about 15 years, but wonderful layout...great variety, not punishingly long, every hole memorable, fantastic condition.

Wolf Creek - Really fun, unique course. Not like anything else I've ever played...like playing on the moon.

Connecticut GC - Very private, mens only course near Westport...hilly, tree line, and punishing, it was the first "fancy" course I ever played.

Pebble/Spyglass - I group these together, because if you're going to pony up for a room and round, you may as well play both. First five of Spyglass are spectacular.

Riviera CC - Worth playing because of the reputation, but frankly I think it's too difficult unless you're a solid 12 or better. Often cool and damp, ball doesn't carry much. And it's a very long course - feels like I'm hitting hybrids/woods all day long! And greens are really hard - no such thing as an easy four footer.

Another great course in the Jax, FL area is St. John's Golf and Country Club. I think it is technically in St. Augustine right off I-95.

Course is public but the greens are in the best shape outside of TPC Sawgrass in the area IMO. It's a challenge too. I play from the blues and it's over 6800 from there playing to a rating of 73.5. Tips are 72-7300 I think. Played it today and the course was in great shape (though they are aerifying the greens Monday).

1. Arcadia Bluffs - Arcadia, MI - Given that I haven't played anything nearly as picturesque, this course blew my mind! So much elevation change and a great layout. I would say its a poor man's Whistling Straits.

2. Des Moines Golf and Country Club - West Des Moines, IA - I interned out there two years ago, so I got to play both the North and South Courses a lot. Two Pete Dye designed golf courses that are going through a renovation as we speak. It's hosting the Solheim Cup in 2017. Probably has the best course conditions I have played. Pristine.

3. Golden Valley Golf and Country Club - Golden Valley, MN - A classic Tillinghast design. Tough, undulating greens and 5 par 5's make it a fun, but difficult test.

4. Wakonda Club - Des Moines, IA - Got a chance to play it twice when I was interning at DMG&CC. Hosts a Champions Tour event. It has to be the most difficult walking golf course I have ever played.

5. White Bear Yacht Club - White Bear Lake, MN - A classic Donald Ross design. Another difficult walk and you won't find very many flat lies. Tough, and fast greens.

6. Edinburgh USA - Brooklyn Park, MN - I would rate it as the best value Public Course in MN (Walk for under $60). A great layout that doesn't have two holes alike. Has it's signature island fairway 17th hole. Very cool golf course.

Yeah, really, though I suppose things could be different now many years later.

It was never a hard decision to drive out to play Willingers over Rush Creek, Edinburgh USA, Chaska Town, The Wilds or any other high end public course. It was a better layout, always in good condition and a terrific value. It won't make any magazine Top 100 lists, but that's not my definition of great.

I don't see any reason to just list six Top 100 courses I've played.

Also: Considering that my favorite course in the Mpls/St Paul area was always Mississippi Dunes YMMV when it comes to things I think are "great".

Caledonia Golf and Fish Club - Just an awesome environment, awesome holes in the tall pines and deep white sand bunkers.

Medinah Country Club - played about two weeks after the '99 PGA, hardest, fastest course I've ever played. If my memory is right, they almost lost some greens during the tournament. Got a pic next to the Sergio tree on 16. The member I was playing with offered $1k to me and my buddy if we were on in regulation. We were scratch at the time and didn't win the money.

Interlachen Country Club - Just perfect.

Hazeltine National GC - Needs no introduction. Host of major tournaments and the upcoming Ryder Cup. The course itself is great. I've played it more times than I can count and am always impressed with how big the course feels everytime I play there.

Pinehurst #2 - No explanation necessary.

Wolf Creek Golf Club - Not the one in Vegas, the all-male club outside of Kansas City. Awesome, fun layout. There are no rules at this place, which I like. Rumor has it that a member went to a civilian sniper course and then used the driving range as a gun range for his sniper rifle during the winter.

Lot of Minnesota courses in here, aka my old stomping grounds. I played Edinburgh many a times during high school. I also liked Bunker Hills. I think best course for the money (at least 20 years ago) was Baker National.

I've played lots of famous/expensive courses, but chose not to include them on my list. I'm glad several replies to this thread includes courses I've never heard of. Thanks for contributing.
