Making MP in b2b years is nothing to sneeze at in the most competitive am tournament in the world.

I am sure he is disappointed but he has a hell of a future ahead of him and probably is more clear of his required areas of improvement, etc. now than a year ago.

I don't follow this stuff too closely but i wonder if he felt like another deep run would have secured him a spot on the Walker Cup team?

That is why you see so few events on tv with matchplay. Too many times, a great player is eliminated after only 18 holes.

obviously a disappointing result today. when i left the course i felt like i played poorly but went back and looked at some of the scores for other matches and how they played out relative to par. there were some absolute pillow fights with guys shooting +6 to +9 and winning, think i saw a guy win 4&3 at roughly +6. scores were high cause it was pretty windy. greg was E, I was +3, he played really well and was scrambling like crazy...there wouldn't have been any real variation from what the MP scorecard showed based on how things played out. i hit it average, chipped average, putted average and if one of those was better maybe its a close match, and if i do two of them better today i felt i would have won.

even if i advanced today i had a tough one coming next playing dale/rodgers. greg and i were both 1st team all-americans this year along with rodgers...dale was second team so definitely a tough draw for my part of the bracket. unfortunately thats the nature of match play.

regarding walker cup, ill find out this weekend or early next week. there are certain scenarios that help my chances, mainly a foreigner winning this week. so i will have to wait and see. i feel like i have played well enough but it is hard to predict how the usga will select because results are only part of the process.

thanks for the support guys. wish i could have made a sick run again, but thats golf.

Hey thanks for your assessment. Shows how deep the amateur field is that a guy who made the cut at the US Open could play average and lose by 3 in the first round.

Really hope you make the Walker Cup. Would love to hear a comparison of the pressure in that versus the Masters given how the pros hype up the pressure in the team events.

All part of the experience. You are turning pro soon if I recall so the benefits of winning aren't all there.

Love tournaments. Expose the parts of the game that need the most work.

And way to claw back to match play.

GG, better run next time.

Matt Fitzpatrick, is that the one of the amateurs that made the cut in The British Open?

Looking like only 2-4 U.S. players will be in the final 8

3 Americans made it. Is Scottie Scheffler the kid who won the US jr last year?
This thread seems like the best place to talk about the rest of the Am, if not will a mod move this to a new thread.

He won it like 3 weeks ago.

Kid from Philly made it to quarters. Played with him like 4 or 5 years ago in a us AM Qualifier. Bombed it then but was not very polished. Now he's in the qtrs.

Scottie representing Dallas with some incredible matches so far. Wow.

Fingers crossed for you stadler, I have 3 buddies who played in the Walker Cup and they all say it was a career highlight and that was 20ish years ago before the game really took off. I can't imagine how sweet it would be now.

Brandon Matthews. He's from my town and my club. Still bombs it. He's on a sick heater and has won pretty much everything in sight this summer. Looks like he's got a tough match tomorrow, but hoping he can pull it out!!!

Yup. He's had a sick summer from what I've read. I assume he has worked pretty hard. Wish him luck tomorrow

+1 with Chuck and myself being from the same area.

Interviewed Brandon a few times. Kid has the mental make-up to get it done. Not sure if his game is polished enough.
