If stadler brings home the bacon, everyone on 2+2 has to agree that it's a major, ok?

BO does have a 100% valid point; Riverman started this thread.

Thread re-opened. We all enjoyed watching all week and we'll be watching at Augusta in April.

Man I'm watching the replay of this right now on GC and it's so agonizing knowing the outcome (he's dormie-2 atm). Incredible showing though, congratulations!

Congrats on the achievement Stadler. I know it wasn't the outcome you were looking for, but you should still be holding your head high.

I told a white lie to all of my friends that Michael Weaver was a friend of a friend since I wanted everyone to cheer for him and don't like to advertise that I have thousands of posts on an Internet board.

Was a huge emotional roller coaster to watch, cannot imagine what it was like from stadler's shoes.

To say Mr. Weaver has a lot to be proud of is an understatement, don't have better words at the moment though

Man that second putt on 18 (36th hole) was so brutal. It really looks like he put a great stroke on it and hit it squarely and with confidence - albeit too hard for an essentially straight putt - but it hit something about halfway to the hole which threw it just enough offline to miss. Thems the breaks but that was a particularly bad one.

Congratulations Michael! I hope that if I am ever in a similar situation I can be as composed and mature as you were. Good luck!!!!!!

This is nuts. I was watching a replay of the finals and thought the name sounded familiar from when I used to frequent this forum last summer. Just came on to check if I was going crazy or not. Good run, dude. Amazing.

Ha! I did essentially the same thing. I think I labeled stads a "distant acquaintance" which is probably less true than him being a friend of a friend.

didn't get a chance to comment and was unfortunately tied up away from home during the final weekend so didn't see on tv.

michael, congratulations for your success. couldn't happen to a more helpful person, which is great (positive karma??)

what's your highest ncaa rating been? has your golf really improved before the us amateur? or were you pretty happily surprised by your play?

btw, any tips for 20 yard punchouts to the fairway from heavy rough when your back swing is really limited? like under a foot for the backswing? something i have dealt with alot recently in the pacific northwest.

congrats and thanks again!!

thanks. i cant remember what my highest ranking was for sure, i think freshman year i was as high as 35th, but i redshirted this past year so its been awhile. as far as the punchouts, if you have been dealing with that a lot maybe work on whatever is getting you in that position. but in heavy rough a mistake i see a lot is guys taking too little loft (ie 4 iron instead of 6) and getting caught up in the rough on the way out and not getting back to the fairway so take that for what its worth.

hey mike, thanks for the answer re: heavy rough.

FYI, i followed eugene wong and nick taylor today for 18 holes in a tournament in vancouver BC. both amazing players. Eugene seems unbelievably accurate and great putter whereas nick is pretty long and nice longer irons. james lepp and darren wallace i think also played but i didn't see them. james' first tournament in his possible return to pro golf
