Cam has already turned pro. I think he announced it last week or early this week. I think he's playing in the Mexico event this week.

that makes sense...

i wondered what the NCAA, his coach, Texas A&M admin etc. thought about him trying to qualify for web.com when he was still an active student/scholarship athlete....

have the players who've qualified for stage 3 - i have at least 3 players of specific interest to me - gained anything tangible for next season yet. like have they gained automatic status for monday qualifying or something like that?

i know whatever they've gained is apt to be fairly minor right now.

They'll have some sort of status which means the following. They can register late for web.com Monday qualifiers which helps with schedule planning and the fact that they don't have to worry about them filling up. The cost of such I think is only $100 compared to the standard $450.

While I'm not at all certain, they might also be exempt from pre-qualifiers on the PGA Tour while again only having to pay $100. Pre-Q's are usually the Thursday or so before the Monday qualifier so this leads to scheduling ease.

From what I've been told by guys with this status, it's actually more important than you might think.

round 1 final stage... nice 61 by a player from guatemala....

https://www.pgatour.com/webcom/leaderboard.html

mike weaver doing quite well.. i notice he starts slow often and comes on strong, whereas one of my horses starts fast and invariably fades.............. small sample size... but i think consistent with ship's course management service there needs to be a sport psychology lite service. ship probably addresses that.

if it's the same as last year, i think the key cutoffs are #1, #10 and #45 (not sure if ties or playoff). doing that from memory

my other 2 horses are inside top 45..

weaver T16 after 2 rounds..

top 1, 10 and 45 are key spots.... he's 2 off top 10. 3 or 4 inside top 45..

turns out i have 4 total horses.... T7, T32, T45.... and mike T16

2 days to go.

Nice, hopefully the grinding in Latin America gonna pay off with being able to play the web till the first reshuffle.

mid-late 3rd round, mike and my other main guy are a stroke or two outside the top 45 - the key cutoff line.

lee mccoy, for whom i did 18 holes of course marshalling, leads by 1. a bit of a cocky exterior but very very polite when i helped him with a couple of specific things.

weaver = 3 off top 45 heading to back 9 final day

my main guy dropped off badly the last 2 days.

1 shot back of possible playoff for top 45... 2 holes to play. both par 4's

1 hole left. still needs the birdie.... not sure if it's playoff or top 45 and ties....

if playoff, then it's almost certain (as very few golf left for players near the number) that they'll be one and weaver will be in it if he birdies 18

sorry for new thread. mod can just lock it but i thought it deserved its own headline.

mike birdied his last hole and i think everything is lined up for him to qualify (i.e. his # will be the cutoff).... and it's apparently top 45 and ties so no playoff.

not sure of any of this but that's how it seems

Looks like he’s in on the number. As is my other sweat from my hometown. Great to see!!!

not certain myself he's in but everything points to it in my mind.

tied for top 45 and i didn't see any way that the line would move from there. there were very very few players left around that number. most of the players still to play were either way ahead or way behind (split tees?)

i think the top 45 get the first 8 starts........ that's great on number of starts and timing. it's not as good to have exemption after reshuffles as there are fewer events left to earn money and probably good players have huge momentum.

edit, ok big tie for 42nd. and i think they all get the first 8 starts.

That is still pretty damn good after having to play in Latin America last year. Get hot and ride it hopefully.

T42nd got 20-25 starts. The thing is so incredibly convoluted it's hard to follow, but I think the 8 starts is just the guarantee. Realistically, top 45 are full time web.com members.

first 8 starts is a real boost. that's alot of starts and it's at start of the year so you can build on a nice start. if you get in later on you don't have much time to build $$$$ for the year.

as i've said elsewhere, getting to these tours seems alot harder than staying there. a couple of top 20's in those first 8 starts and you are off to the races i'd say.

saw reference to michael being one of 6 players to birdie last hole to make top 45... saw another player had some amazing birdie/eagle streak (some luck involved) and then parred to miss by one

mike has an early saturday tee time in the web.com bahamas event. event goes saturday through tuesday. no idea why?... seems like not a bad idea for lesser tours. i'm always jonesing for tournament golf early in the week.

i think he has the first 8 events. and then reshuffle.

2 web.com tourneys in the bahamas this year i believe.. might be why they have tuesday finish. economize on golfer's days for travel/hotel/etc..

this is the event where the scoring average might have been above 80 for the one of the days last year... one half of the scoring draw was comical. top players shooting 87......... every time i've played caribbean golf it's been really really windy.

Yeah I seem to remember one half of the draw might have been better walking off and not wasting the time, it was brutal.

the farce of last year's bahamas scores made me think of this (long story warning):

we had a local provincial seniors championship where my dad and i volunteered as scorers.

how's this for professionalism and forward thinking?

the event included senior women and had no qualifying standard...

they played tough course with large forced carries...

my dad said to the head pro that they should have drop zones over the forced carries.... so he got on the loudspeaker and deemed that an instant rule.

some of the women would have never finished (EVER) if they hadn't done that impromptu rule change.

i forecaddied voluntarily for some 93 year-old women who had to play in the pouring rain on muddy fairways with no electric cart.. they took 25+ strokes on some holes and then they'd record a 12 or 13 on the scorecard.

one of the 93 year-olds made it over an 80 yard forced carry. i was impressed.. these weren't 93 year-olds who seemed like 70 year-old. these were like average 88 year old woman.

it wasn't the mainline provincial golf championships but i think it was golf association certified. there was a really bored rules official there.

MW was plus 5 today in opening round in the bahamas.. minus 7 = lead. a quarter of the players or so to complete round 1 tomorrow.

bahamas has another web.com event next week.

MW seems like a slow starter......... kind of like seattle seahawks offense. pull off some big plays in 4th quarter after being quiet all game.
