The maximum lie angle of a putter is 79 degrees, therefore if you place the putter perfectly vertical the heel of the putter head will be way off the ground.

So while it's physically proper to want to be at 90 degrees, the equipment rules make this impossible. You can get around it a little bit by having a very small putter head.

I've personally gone down all these avenues with a long putter over the years.

you can clearly see Will has it very close to 90* at address (i'd guess it's at about 87* or so). the MEZZ.1 and other putter designs make it so golfers can play it 'nearly' upright if they wish

fyi, the maximum lie angle of a putter is 80* not 79*

my understanding is the peeps at L.A.B. Golf will only manufacture up to 79.5* to ensure a little cushion w on-site testing equipment and whatnot should you find your putter being tested at a sanctioned event

Literally feels like you can throw a dart at the board to pick a winner these days.

Winners in 2024 so far:

Chris Kirk
Grayson Murray
Nick Dunlap
Matthieu Pavon
Wyndham Clark
Nick Taylor
Hidecki

Definitely did not see Hidecki coming from 6 back to win going away. I had kind of forgotten about him to be honest.

I would like to hear from gmcarroll or rickroll on this week's Saturday AM tournament odds. It seems shooting the uber low scores is easier than the past, so maybe the books are late to catch on.

59% win equity for Cantlay did not look right to me.

Just thinking logically about that....

1, you have to have a guy go deep while the leader doesn't do much
2, even if #1 happens, you then have to cover ~30 players who could make it happen at long odds

Just from what I've seen from odds postings here, there's plenty of value to be had if you know all the guys on tour and not just the players TV loves.

Except Matsuyama was behind only 9 guys after 36.

The primary assumption in books offering huge odds for guys 8+ shots back is that scoring follows a normal distribution, or reasonably close to that.

If it follows a uniform distribution, or closer to uniform than normal (to a point), then models can show these high odds can be exploited.

Who can forget Els winning British Open @400:1 only behind by 4 with 6 holes left?

See: expected lifetime of cockroach.

I think in general playing the lesser known guys heading into Sat or Sun is good value. If they are in the lead, they are often still betting underdogs to bigger names who are trailing them. If they are even a stroke or 2 behind a big name, the odds are usually overly long, and you can get a good price.

I had List today at +550. This was right after he had tied for the lead. Didn't work out but was still a +EV wager imo. Books were still heavy on Cantlay to win.

Betting the longshots has definitely worked out so far this year. Now I suppose Scottie and Rory will start winning everything lol.

I learned that the max was 80* from a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode. Richard Lewis cheated Larry out of $500.

Jake Knapp, co-leader in Mexico, is nicest guy you'd ever meet, is extremely marketable (looks, demeanor, swing, interviews) and has a god-given ability to shoot really low scores

surprised that it took him so lomg to make PGA Tour and also surprised he isn't near the top of driving distance leaders on the PGA Tour

I heard his recent interview on PGATOUR Radio. Jake is soundly based in health and conditioning, and speaks of golf at times as of secondary importance.

He worked briefly as a club security guard to prove he needed nobody's help in making it.

IRT hitting it long, Jake hit a 4 iron approach on #18 @ Torrey Pines South, ball speed 172 mph. It flew over the green, 265 carry IIRC. The guy can flat crush it.

He says guys come up to him challenging him to long driving contests prior to tournaments. Jake seems to care very little about bragging rights on who hits it farthest. He remains focused to working with his team and becoming a successful pro golfer.

Jake mentioned that he would be playing the Vallarta event. He felt insulted that some people told him that he woukd do well there because it was "wide open". He seems to take a concerted stance away from the bomber stereotype.

He spoke in some detail about his swing training, noting that he almost never hits it 100%. For him it is about being able to develop consistency.

His most impressive shot today was on #9, 143 yds into over water

It looked like he was hitting a 50 yard chip shot, the tempo was incredible.

4 deuces today (5 par 3s).

i was impressed to see Knapp with lofted driver (2 wood?) in addition to his regular lower loft driver

i know Jake from seeing him many times on.canadian.tour. and we have mutual friend

he is really really impressive in person in many ways.. but he did.the ocassional very wild drive. someone said "with his swing speed, his, misses.will be huge".. but i,thought it was a bit more than that.

thought throttling it.back,selectively on tee.shots.would halp him,immensely
