Rory's the biggest choker since Greg Norman.

As a fan of Rory and not of Bryson this was an intersection of the two worst outcomes possible today.

Bryson, phony FIGJAM, wins with Rory coughing up furballs on a couple of putts to throw it away. FFS.

But, as much as I don't like Bryson he made some incredible shots today.

for the last 5 holes it was Rory please don't choke; Bryson please don't win. ffs

He got really unlucky on the two footer roll out, i think it was the 16th hole. 1 out of 10 times the ball rolls out on that trajectory imo. Congrats to Bryson, I enjoyed watching this. and what a bunker shot on the 18th! a deserved win.

I like Mcginley analysis of Rory's head space. I do think it is mostly mental. You know, when it turned his way suddenly and he had a two shot lead, his reaction looked very strange. He acted almost sunken, flat, crestfallen ... like something bad had just happened. It was noticeable, palpable. And weird. I was pulling for him emotionally even though I had Bryson as one of my four 20/1 shots. I had trouble copping to the Bryson bet as I had ranted a few years ago he wouldn't win another major. But he was rounding too much into form to resist 20/1, getting in a better head space as Rory seems to get in a worse one. As Bobby Jones said, championship golf is played in a six inch space. And Rory's is anti-Jack and anti-Tiger at present, it seems.

I'm a hacker golfer and trying to see how you mean this. From my hacker play I think I noticed at times the ball leaps off the putter to the left, not from a pull but as if it came out of a dimple on the green oddly. Is that what you are saying happened on Rory's putt on 18?

Oh I'll still bet on Rory to win at least one more, in dominant fashion.

A stat even Brandel had trouble accepting.

Players to win US Am and multiple US Opens:

-Bobby Jones
-Jack Nicklaus
-Tiger Woods
-Bryson Dechambeau

That was probably the most entertaining major since Tigers Masters win. Tough course, where doubles are always in play.

As a longtime golfer, fan of the game, and admitted conspiracy theorist.....I know this sounds crazy

I can't help but think Rory is purposely competitive but almost making sure he loses. He has all of the tools needed to win, he stays in shape, clearly a great striker of the ball, knows the game. It's like he bets the other side and just goes out there and makes it look believable. Problem is he doesn't really fit in the role as the guy who just can't get it done. He has 120+ top 10's. Golf point shaving, that has to be the only explanation.

It seems totally plausible that a guy with all the talent and wealth that Rory had would be focused on cheating on sports bets.

It's interesting to me how the move to LIV has been great for some guys (Koepka and Bryson) and seemingly bad for others (Rahm, Cam Smith, DJ)

I think not having the structure and forcing mechanism to keep them on track has been bad for the guys like Cam and DJ who seem to view golf as a means to an end of a cushy life and not their sole focus. It allows them to half ass it and achieve what they want out of golf, which may be good for them personally but bad for their chances competitively.

On the other hand, I think Bryson is a true golf sicko who loves tinkering and practicing and playing 4 serious tournaments a year allows him to try out whatever he wants to in his downtime and gear up for the biggest events every year.

Sample size though. Rahm played 2 majors, Cam was on a massive heater when he joined LIV and his majors results have been solid since. DJ appears to have semi retired but who knows, last year he played well on LIV and decent in the majors but this year he's been terrible.

Bryson was struggling up until a little over a year ago then changed caddies and he's been probably the best golfer on the planet since.

Whilst you'd still expect him to make the putt, The putt on 18 was a smelly putt, by the looks of it was no gimme.

Agreed. Downhill left to right when you have to start the ball outside the hole on those greens is way different that the standard 4 footer. The putt on 16 was the bad one.

Also, what the odds of Bryson getting up and down from 50 yards away in a bunker? If that doesn't happen Rory takes the playoff 50% of the time and those two putts are never discussed again.

I saw Twitter it was 1.7% chance or something like that for Bryson to hit that bunker shot to 3 feet.

PGA Tour average this year for sand saves is just under 53%. That shot is more like 1 in 3, no harder than 1 in 4.

Rory’s putt on 18 is roughly 75-80%, very rare on tour to have a putt that short starting outside the hole. Easily missable. As already stated, the horrible miss was on 16.

Would be interesting to try to calculate winning percentages with Rory looking at the 4 footer and Bryson under the tree.

60 yard sand saves? No player got up and down from that bunker all week.

Not only outside the hole, but slick left to righters are always tougher, especially when Rory's natural ball flight is a draw.
