The laugh that is Lexi Thompson receiving a sponsor's exemption to compete in this week's PGA Tour event is about to begin. Some tour member that is fighting to keep his card sure could have used an exemption but Vegas decided on having a circus instead.

Her odds to win are currently +100000, the same as a player who finished 2nd in a tour event in the last couple of years. So laughable.

Nothing against Lexi but this kind of stuff is stupid.

sponsor's pay big bucks to affiliate themselves w the PGAT. taking shots at them for whom they choose as an exemption(s) is such a LOL bad hot take

solid up and down just now by Lexi on #18 to save par (nailing a 6' 3" putt for par)

her 1st round SG #s (w a few ppl still playing R1): -0.19 (Putt), +0.99 (App), -1.19 (OTT), -1.14 (T2G)

Lexi took 32 putts that round. if she cleans up the putting a bit, she'll have an outside chance of making the cut

better yet, have the sponsors bankrolling the festivities leave the scene and play for a sleeve of golf balls and a ham sandwich at the 19th hole

edit to say: one of the real issues facing the players you're talking about (other than not playing well enough in the first place) are the numerous golfers most weeks who tee up on Thursday w an ailment knowing full well their chances of completing 36 holes (let alone 72 holes) are less than 50%

Haven't watched any golf this week, but as a fan I'm more interested in watching Lexi vs a random pro I've never heard of or who is a leftover from the 90s.

I truly have no idea what will happen to the Tour going forward.

I feel like the guys in the 50-250 range have no idea how good they've had it for how long. I just don't see a future version of golf which has dudes playing these fall events with none of the Top 50 players in the field and a $1.4 Million top prize.
