Was a course record before last week too. Shoot the course record twice and don't won. So absurd.

I know they are doing this to make meaningful golf end sooner and not compete with NFL ( I guess), but I don't like that
(1) the Majors are over before you know it and
(2) The Fedex is over before you know it...

That was quite a profitable birdie by Kokrak on 18, he's gonna bank $400k even if he comes in last this week.

$15 mil to the winner is pretty crazy, but I guess it has to be to get their attention with the amount of money they are making.

I reserve judgement on the new format but I do think it does somewhat dampen the interest in the final tournament. I m pessimistic this change will stick around and can see them trying something else I'm the next few years.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Reavie with the 230 yard ace on #9 (the real #18).

3 questions,

1) was the change in the pga season to avoid going head-to-head with NFL? never heard that but it makes complete sense.

2) do the top players play as much? seems like pre-January doesn't exist to top players. but they probably took tons of time off in the spring-summer before that i didn't notice.

3) is there still an official winner/leaderboard/etc. for this week's tourney? have seen very little about it. and it's unclear that what i've seen is real or simply simulated i.e. these are the players scores this week, in case you are wondering.

thx in advance

The change in schedule was definitely in significant part to avoid overlap with the football season. Hard to get attention for the playoffs otherwise.

The tour has participation requirements, so unless you're Tiger you're playing a fair amount. One reason why it might not seem as though they play as much is that the number of events seems to keep going up. There is no offseason anymore.

The players started the week at different scores at or below par instead of the old point system. Justin Thomas started at -10 since he was first in the standings. 30th place started at even. Whoever wins the event is the FexEx Cup champ.

I don't get the NFL thing (not American). Surely they can coexist? How much overlap is there? I can't imagine European tour decisions being made on the basis of football seasons.

I do they lose the fans on Sunday and Saturday is College Football. I think it was smart and I like the format change. Reality the only thing that gets the players is the cash. Nothing else will

A lot of people (/raises hand) stop paying much attention to golf once football season starts. Football is a very big deal.

I actually really like the format they have going

+1 (I'm assuming you're talking about the staggered starting scores for the East Lake event).

The move from 4 playoff events to 3 was a key piece. In a weird way, it actually feels like... dare i say it... the playoffs.

Going head-to-head vs the NFL on TV is the formula for financial disaster. Bye-bye ad revenue.

I was apprehensive about giving strokes to people before a tournament but the more you wrap your mind around this being just four final rounds to a season long tournament the more it makes sense. I think I like it. And it should hopefully provide some decent drama tomorrow afternoon as long as Brooks doesn’t go real low today.

And this is pretty much all you need to know about competing with the NFL - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RYb0ot_HIPA

20million? That's not that many in a country USA size? That would be equivalent of about 3-4 m in UK which is less than half what highest rated programs get.

Does anyone know (or care) if today's winner is credited with an official PGA tournament victory?

Of course, the reason I ask is because of the staggered start.

Thanks.
