U.S. Open cancels qualifying, will go with all-exempt field

In the last few days received an email from both the USGA and the PGA Tour. The USGA informed me of the above. The PGA Tour informed me there would be no Champions Tour Q school this year. Am obviously more pissed about the latter.

On both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour they are increasing field size so more players can get in this year, but also guaranteeing everybody keeps their status for next year as well. Those on the inside are protected from multiple sides while those knocking on the door are screwed for 18 months. To make matters worse, on the PGA Tour, they’ve reduced the number of Monday qualifying spots this season from 4 to 2.

So yeah, I’m not pleased. But I have taken this time to relearn how to putt and am currently playing some of the best golf of my life. So when the time comes to compete again, I’ll just have to go out and successfully Monday Q into a Champions Tour event and then play good enough that they can’t shut me out.

I’m relieved. I was close to having to delete my account.

I still don’t feel like it is a good time to restart the season. Feels forced and early.

We will see.

Last week's "The Match" was entertaining though. Now, imagine it with a whole lot more groups. It's going to be glorious.

I know you're worried about spread and safety. I am, too. My kids basically haven't left the house since March 12th.

There seem to be ways to safely re-enter society. These events will distract the world from hearing, reading, and seeing the Coronavirus. We need distractions.

Sucks for the guy that gets bumped. But maybe play better and that won't happen.

Sad. He deserved to play. Absolutely earned it.

I would be more worried about civil unrest than covid right now. It certainly isn’t safe to be in a major American city. How can the police guarantee the players’ safety?

This is serious **** and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down.

Sad, hopefully it is because he is going to play in one of the upcoming PGA events and not because of the angry Twitter mob. Korn Ferry tour guys should have been honored a legend would tee it up with them. Maybe now we can just get rid of cuts all together, that way everyone can get paid and earn a living.

It's strange to me how not that long ago people were like zomg if 2 people get within 6 feet of each other we're all going to die. Stay at home, under a blanket, with the lights off or it will be the end of the world. Now everyone is like **** it, we're done with this, it's not a problem anymore. Who cares. Moving along....

Well I guess will see in the next few weeks how it goes with all the protests, casinos opening up and many folks getting back to a routine.

Heck even myself as soon as I left a business i would use a lysol wide on my hands and even in stores. I have been missing that a few times.

Well, I was right (barely) that they wouldn’t be able to play their full schedule, but I’m very surprised that they would allow fans.

Strange that the government scares the living hell out of people, closes every business, and then does a 180 (or is it 360).

I still don’t think it is the right time and they will get some flack. But perhaps it will be secondary to the Floyd protests and the news won’t even care.

I said they wouldn’t be able to pull off the entire schedule. I was totally right. My advice was to find areas where they didn’t have to worry about a strict quarantine.

Still, this is far more than I expected. They seriously cut corners.

What they said they were going to do and what they actually are doing is borderline fraud. There testing program isn’t anywhere near what they announced.

The lied. Yet another corporation doing whatever they want.

Hard to believe we'll be watching live final round PGA golf this time next Sunday. Cannot wait.

Exactly what everyone should be focused on. Going super hard on betting and DFS.

If you want a hole-by-hole preview, this guy played the course before the tournament last year. Oh, and his wife filming is a Cowboys cheerleader, so that's an added bonus.

This was pretty entertaining so I watched him and his friend play bethpage black from the tips. Had some good laughs. Thanks.

The video of him playing with Jon Rahm in Arizona is pretty good too. Shows you how good the pros really are.

I knew Dechambeau was hitting the weights but holy cow I did not expect him to be that huge. Evidently he averaged 345+ off the tee today. Gotta hand it to him, he is determined to make himself into the ultimate golfing machine.

He is freaking enormous.
