SPEEEEEEEEEF
04-03-2021 , 10:30 PM
Ok, what's your play here? I'm actually thinking about Speef, and I think Sungjae is a good pick that not many others will take.

Everyone picks a team of 6 golfers. Add your best 4 of 6 golfers scores to form your team score. The best team score wins the pool. Cut golfers (and anyone who doesn’t finish 4 rounds) get 80 for any rounds not completed. Playoff holes do not count. Cost is $20 per entry. Enter as many times as you wish.

is there a salary cap, or can you pick any six golfers?
04-03-2021 , 11:40 PM
If it's any six.... Spieth is good, Sungjae is also good. This is Masters-specific, right? Cantlay is a good choice. If you want to mix in a high-variance choice over multiple entries, Morikawa is a good one. Augusta is a 2nd-shot course and there's nobody better than Colin... but it also places a premium on putting and he is super streaky. If he putts well he can have a big week. If he putts closer to his average he won't.

Feel like you probably have to mix in JT and Bryson (to a lesser extent) pretty heavily. Stay away from Rory, he's in the wilderness right now.

I agree with pretty much everything schu said in his first paragraph. I’ve been touting Im and Colin for quite a while around these parts and I’m still on them.

What do we do with Finau? He was the tits until these past few tourneys.

A 15-year-old girl just drove it 251.2 yards in the DCP at ANGC (and it is 41 degrees).

Lol I know these kids making me feel even worse about my game than usual. Saw a 10yo boy hit it 242 which is pretty much my average.
04-04-2021 , 10:14 AM
Don't feel bad. These kids are the top 1% of the top 1%. Also, I use clubs older than them. They are using top club technology. It's definitely them doing these things, but they've got tremendous advantages.

Edit: Fitted clubs, starting golf way younger, parents whose lives revolve around their junior golf success, etc.

DJ, Spieth, Bryson, JT, Morikawa

Sergio? Playing well-ish?
Cam Smith? 2 top 5s at the Masters (2018, 2020)
Fitzpatrick?

you had me at 15-year-old girl

I thought about saying Cam Smith too. Sergio has found some scary form recently. Definitely something to consider

Rahm + Wife (she did the work) had their baby.

Don't need to worry about him WDing.

Yes, this is Masters specific. I was under the impression it was any 6, but it turns out not to be the case. You have to pick 1 from each tier. I went with:

Tiebreaker - What will the winning golfer's score be at the end of tournament, not including playoff holes?

i'm afraid Augusta's greens and Will's putting won't be a good combination unless he runs really hot. definitely has the game tee to green to make a showing though.

Yeah, course knowledge is so important there. Only one first time winner since the first two years in 1934 and 35.

Of course one can have a good finish without winning.

see i never understood this mindset, in my opinion it's more of a "your first time playing it you haven't yet peaked and thus were a deep underdog"

i think a better way to view it was how many of those first year players were favorites to win or even in the top 10 favorites to win?

i get that course history plays a role, but if it were so vital, it's not like those guys couldn't have put in a couple practice rounds in the weeks leading up the event

No Masters for Rickie. Had a nice majors streak going as well

The Masters is very different. The course has so many nuances that it takes many years to truly come to grips with it. There is no other course in the world where local knowledge is this important. I cannot overstate just how much this plays a role.

There have been plenty of top players that are studs on worldwide tours who get their lunch handed to them the first time at the Masters.

I wanna know how broken Brooks is

Sungjae Im's T-2 finish in his Masters debut suggests otherwise.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
