bomb and gouge is back...for the time being. let's see how that fares with courses set up with penal rough and scores somewhere around par as the winner. if he can have similar results in both open championships then i'll tip my hat to him.

I agree. I think heíll have a slight advantage at Masters but you better be able to putt in order to win there.

The Opens depend on the courses a bit.

Although he can just play with 3-woods and be just fine apparently.

I think he's 12th in SG putting, so he should have no problem there. The only stat that's not great for him is driving accuracy, which is not surprising when you're hitting it 350.

Bryson led the field in both strokes gained off-the-tee and strokes gained putting. Since data tracking began more than 15 years ago, he is the only player to win a PGA Tour event while leading the field in both of those statistics.

i didn't watch much of the tourney (saw probably a round's worth of holes from him over the four days), but there were at least three or four holes he left long putts just a few inches short while being on the right line.

His entire game is impressive right now. Not sure what he ranked in proximity to the hole, but that 3 wood he got over the trees from thick rough was insane. The majors have the potential to be great this year with all the young talent and Tiger looking healthy and sharp.

I liked Kisner's line about Dechambeau:

*Bryson DeChambeau is HUGE -- why isn't anyone asking the obvious questions?*

sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/bryson-dechambeau-huge-why-isnt-160854401.html

^**The only time I've seen rapid weight and strength gains like this were with athletes using some sort of supplements.

Is DeChambeau doing this without chemical help? If so, it's an incredible story.***

Maybe they arenít doing the right testing...

I didnít realize they are playing the same course two weeks in a row.

Thatís kind of weak. So many courses in Ohio.

I saw this article and thought it was atrocious. Boggles the mind that some quasi 'journalist' could come out and write that without a shred of evidence and still have it published.

Like if Bryson actually were using PED's then there will be plenty of evidence, and a real journalist would get off his couch and go get it. Dig through garbage cans, interview doctors and people close to him, get expert opinions from other fitness experts, the whole nine yards. Instead he writes some bullshit about how his feels and to bypass the fact that the tour regularly tests for PED's just hand waves that away by saying 'oh well Bryson is really smart and into science, he probably just found a really sciencey way to get around the testing'.

Just utter crap.

The stories you got in tennis back then were clearly so much better than what you get today.

Not sure about golf though - the game is getting longer and stronger, but it's still pretty enjoyable. The game is clearly weighted in favour of the big hitters, but not as much as tennis ended up being. At least not yet.
Sorry but this is just a massively bad take on the state of men's tennis. Of the three top guys (and fourth if you include Murray) none of them are particularly hard servers, and all of them regularly demolish the ones that are. Meanwhile you also have them regularly showing off skills that are probably the best in the history of the sport: Federer's forehand/backhand are both poetry, Nadal's forehand is without doubt the most vicious stroke in the history of the game, as is Djokovic's return of serve, and then to cap it off all three move around the court at a level that has never been seen before.

The only unfortunate thing is that they never seem to get beaten, so each grand slam seems like a reply of the previous one, but that's got way more to do with them than it does with the state of the rest of the game. It's a sad era to see go.

I dunno, I can appreciate the amazing skill of today's players while still thinking the game was more entertaining to watch back in the day. McEnroe was incredibly entertaining, a genius at the net. He would get destroyed by any Top 100 player today. So yeah today's players are better, no doubt, but I miss the variety. It was just a different game. Lendl was considered to have one of the hardest groundstrokes in the game in his day, and he would not stand a chance against these guys. A guy like Federer is probably the closest thing to a throwback.

Probably a matter of taste. Too much bashing from the baseline. Too many aces (especially Wimbledon where some men's matches are barely watchable ace-fests). Remember the Isner-Mahut match? 168 games in a row without a service break. Over 100 aces each. 70-68 5th set score. Ridiculous.

I thought it was a little too sensationalist.

Still, it is a possible. Not surprising it is being questioned after the litany of athletes that have denied taking peds but eventually confessed.

It would be a career killer for him if he tests positive.

No idea what their testing protocols are for peds. Probably pretty weak knowing the PGA Tour.

I mean he's eating a ton and working out like crazy. I'm not sure why they have to jump to the suspicion of PEDs. I agree the article seems irresponsible. Were they accusing Rory of steroids when he started putting on pounds and muscle?

It's not like Bryson was a string bean before, he was always a big guy. I don't find his gains to be that outrageous, he's a pretty obsessive dude obviously.

They finally do something you should like, staying in one place, and ... you're not happy about it.

Okay.

Anyway. On the subject of DeChambowflex, while I understand the impulse to make insinuations about PED use, what he's done isn't that unusual (except in golf). It involves brutally hard work and the right nutrition. Not rocket science.

I am for limited travel. Not the exact same course two weeks in a row. Like play a different course at Bandon Dunes.

This devalues the Memorial Tournament.

Oh well.

One thing I've noticed is that not having fans has almost zero impact on the entertainment value of watching on TV. It's almost easy to forget there are no fans there.

Obviously having fans adds excitement to a major, or to a close finish, but in general I'm enjoying watching just as much as always.

Maybe Ryder Cup it would.

I think Ryder Cup was cut just as much because of concern over doubles competition. You have to confer quite a bit with your partner.

Fans definitely elevate the excitement level. Rest of the evens are totally fine without fans.
