wish the field were stronger, but can't go wrong watching pros play a Donald Ross course.

Looking forward to watching this on tv. But if I hear that guy shout about what does PMI mean one too many times I might shatter the screen.

one thing to keep in mind this weekend is that this is the second to last opportunity on the PGA Tour to qualify for the British Open via the "Open Qualifying Series" criteria. for the RMC, the top 2 players (otherwise not qualified) that finish in the top eight will land spots in this season's last major.

I wonder how many years it will take to get used to that.

USO winner Gary Woodland currently tied for last in his first start since Pebble Beach.

Golf is a weird sport. It's basically like donkaments in poker. So so much luck involved beyond what the average person thinks.

I dunno about him but if I won the us open I’d be coming off a mega bender right about now

knock on wood... i hope we get the feel good story with Lashley TID tmr.

I find all these mostly empty grandstands super annoying. I wish they were general seating and not this corporate tent crap.

OOOPS, WRONG THREAD

way too much obscurity and turnover at the top of the LPGA these days.

no one's fault and not anti-asian as i find tons of obscurity amongst non-asians too.....

not even sure who moves the needle these days: lexi (for sure), maybe the thai sisters. to me, that's about it. maybe brooke but i think that's more canadian thing.

i'm thinking the LPGA should experiment with some course set-ups. seems far too robot-like golf on lpga. maybe play much longer course set-ups but little rough and accessible pins. or the complete opposite. basically mix it up a little and reward all-around golf game. (i will note that my suggestion would benefit brooke, lexi, thai's etc.)

seems like women and men shoot similar scores these days but the path to those scores is so different. men has much more volatility to it.

yup, compare grand slam winners in golf to those in tennis. been the same 3 winners in tennis for the last 12 years. and a little murray/del potro/wawrinka thrown in.

the differences between golf and tennis are many. but one is that you can play incredibly badly for 2 hours in tennis and still win the tournament. if you do that in golf, you are dead. stroke play is cumulative. tennis play is only partially cumulative.

is it a relatively new thing on the pga for players to really try to make low scores? as opposed to patient and wait for birdie opportunities.

seems like in past 2-3 years i've seen alot of comments about either shooting excellent scores or missing the cut being okay. players have got longer and longer but old, semi-tight courses haven't so the difference between on-day and off-day is much larger now.

According to Scott Fawcett that's a recipe for disaster and Tiger in his peak basically played super conservative golf.

The DDF Irish Open at Lahinch G.C. has been special. I read that Padraig Harrington's opening round 63 was his lowest Euro Tour first round score since 2001. Too bad he followed that great round with a 73 today.

This is what Golf Digest had to say about the course last January in their "world's top 100 courses" article:

ranked #34 in the world, LAHINCH G.C. (OLD), Ireland -- [6,950 yards, par 72]

Considered by some to be the St. Andrews of Ireland, the splendid links at Lahinch reflects evolution in golf architecture.

After Alister MacKenzie remodeled it in the 1920s, only a few of Old Tom Morris' original holes, like the Klondyke par-5 fourth, and Dell par-3 fifth, both with hidden greens, remained.

In the 1980s, Donald Steel altered some of MacKenzie's holes and in the 2000s Martin Hawtree rebuilt everything and added four new holes. One classic MacKenzie par 3, the old 13th, is now a bye hole.

What is a bye hole?

Oh and also, I think that Ireland, N. Ireland, and Scotland are the golf mecca for great courses. I guess that obviously goes without saying.

It pretty much goes without saying this week but LOL PHIL

Just hit one so far left the shot tracer line was never on the screen.

Wolff making his move. Looking to secure that card.

Just spent the day at the 3M, golf is probably the best sport to watch in person. Standing 5 feet away from these guys and seeing the shots they hit is so cool.

I’ve been to every major sport and have had courtside/box/booth/50 yardline/front row/glass seats. General golf tickets are still the best sport tickets ever and it’s not close.

Another hugely impressive tournament by Viktor. So happy to see him doing so consistently well already.

This Wolff kid’s swing is insane. I saw his swing coach get interviewed by Jim Nantz at Travelers. Dude seems pretty arrogant. **** works though. I like it.

As Jadakiss says I’m not cocky, I’m confident, so when you tell me I’m the best it’s a compliment.

George Gankas. He's an incredibly unpretentious guy. Not sure he's arrogant at all. He's got a lot of guys coming through.

Upon further review of the youtoobs over the last 20 minutes, you’re right. Dude seems very grounded and a great coach to have.
