Different eras, IMO.
I don't think he makes the team, and I'm not sure he deserves it based on the merits of recent play (mostly from other "better" players).
the course is an awful fit for him. it is a bomber's paradise. i'd guess he isn't even getting serious consideration from Stricker, especially with the way Team USA will have the course set up ... i.e. bombs away.

Morikawa, DJ, Brybaby, Brooks, JT, Cantlay, Finau, Mr. Gold Medal, Speeef and English.

Ironic that Cantlay got the gift win at Memorial, which could have turned the points race the other way and gotten Rahm the Tour Championship and POY if he had been able to finish it.
