I never understood this about Tiger's chip in on #16. He wasn't even the first to hole that exact shot as DL3 did so several years prior. And after the chip in Tiger went on to bogey 17 and 18 to fall into a playoff.

The shot was cool for sure, and with the Nike swoosh hanging there made it more memorable. But the difficulty level of that shot was not outrageous.

Off the top of my head I'd say his most impossible shot was the 3-iron from the fairway bunker at the PGA.

you're overlooking the difficulty in having the Nike logo hang just so ... before falling into the hole.

If the criterion is difficulty of course the chip in doesn’t rate. But In terms of memorability it’s number one. Big shot on the biggest stage.

The putting is a huge problem, but I was surprised to see how highly he ranked in SG approach the past (he was actually number 1 in 2017). I think that was more to do with him being really dialed in though, as I don't think he is actually Paul Casey/JT elite with his irons. I expect more of the Jason Day approach with him being average with his irons, but elite at putting. Then when you have a week where the irons are fire, you win. However, his putting is awful right now, so he's totally screwed if he can't fix that. I don't see him ever being as good with his irons as he was in the past.

Keep in mind he's 25 years old.

What makes his approach stats even better is his diving distance is middle of the road, so he was gaining on the field with shots 5-10 yards longer on average.

And not many guys are winning without a hot putter that week. Ask Rory.

so they make a big deal out of Brooks Koepka and his rare "old school" putting grip....... and then the next player they show putting has the same grip.

don't most players who haven't changed their putt grip through their career putt that way? i.e. right hand index finger down the shaft.

Good on them . Yeah they changed some rules and some have helped and some have not.

Just change the drop rule to placing the ball or drop anywhere between shoulder and knee height

Plus start enforcing slow play on the player not the group as many of us know we all have that one slow playing buddy that we try and compensate for by playing quicker only to have him get slower

That’s some A+ PR from the USGA
03-03-2019 , 03:44 PM
Justin Thomas is a lot more elite at what he does, than the USGA is at what they do.

I mean, it’s pretty hard to be right on substance and still get clowned on.

Looks like the round of Ryan Palmer's life will yield a win. I'm guessing playoff at worst.

It's difficult to roll back 100+ years of stupidity in a few years.
