THE Official 2018/2019 & 2019/2020 PGA Tour Seasons Thread THE Official 2018/2019 & 2019/2020 PGA Tour Seasons Thread

Its that time of year again already. Here are some of my predictions for the coming season. Hopefully these prove to be more accurate than some of my Tiger comeback predictions have been.

The reigning FedEx Cup champion, who was completely overshadowed by the only person who really matters in golf, will claim 1 major. He will also continue to remind me of Bashar Assad.

Spoiler:

Brooks Keopka will win the US Open again, lift a lot of weights, and continue to not care about media exposure, because that's just what he does. Unlike last year he will manage not to permanently maim anyone or get into a fight with another player.

Watch out for this guy. This is the year he really gets things turned on.

Paulina will stay with DJ. But how long comes down to when DJ eventually stops winning and she can't be seen on the 18th green or in Ryder Cup group pictures. At that point she'll move on to someone else.

Finau will win multiple tournaments and manage not to hurt himself while celebrating.

After an off year in 2018, Spieth will get the putter back on track and add another major while continuing to lose hair.

Finally, the GOAT will break Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA Tour wins. He may even lay more pipe than DJ. Many haters will be left crying at the bottom of their shower, a few might even kill themselves. 2018 left no doubt that he's back.*

*Unless of course he gets out of control with his workouts over the winter and hurts himself again.

Huge schedule changes in store:
 • Players Championship moves back to March
 • PGA Championship moves to May
 • Fed Ex Cup Playoffs reduced from 4 events to 3, New York and Boston will rotate as host of 1st event, will finish before the NFL starts.
 • Tour Championship will become a handicapped event.
 • New events in the Twin Cities and Detroit.
 • Houston and Greenbrier off the schedule, expected to return Fall 2019.
 • Tiger's "National" (DC/Philly) tournament finished.
 • Akron off the schedule, WGC moves to Memphis in late July.

Majors:
MASTERS April 11-14
PGA Championship May 16-19, Bethpage Black
US Open June 13-16, Pebble Beach
Open Championship July 18-21, Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland
10-06-2018 , 12:27 PM
That major schedule looks so much better. Bethpage in May should be interesting. Not enough time for the fescue to grow.

Starting the new season the week after the Ryder Cup is kinda dumb imo, but whatever. Probably will only start caring when its Masters time as usual.

Only schedule change that really moves the needle for me is the brand new event in Detroit.

I always felt like the season really started with the Florida swing. Of course I grew up in Florida so maybe I was biased?

Lol at announcing the golfers approaching the green on the second play-off hole, when they were playing the exact same hole ten minutes ago
10-07-2018 , 10:27 PM
lol some dude shot 83 with 9 bogies and a double...

As we enter the new season, I'm looking for some under the radar guys who could have nice seasons for my Season Long Salary Cap Fantasy League.

-Rookies.
-Guys who were injured who should bounce back.
-Breakout guys.

Two I like, although one might be better known now after this week.

Sungjae Im
Cameron Champ

I think, especially early on in the new season, look at the players who advanced through the web.com playoffs. They always seem to start off hot.

sick effort by Tway ... 5 straight birdies (the first two on #17 and #18 to make the playoff) to take down his first PGA Tour title.

Sadly our "Season Long" league starts in January, so all my lesser known guys are becoming known.

Champ was on my radar after that 400-yd drive last season.

Low PGA Ranked, but High OWGR players are good for Majors and WGC events.

I've been compiling a list as the season went along. Thoughts on these dudes.

Jason Dufner

Jeff Overton

Branden Grace

Ryan Ruffles

Joaquin Niemann

Shubhankar Sharma

Abraham Ancer

Keith Mitchell

Julian Suri

Emiliano Grillo

Aaron Wise

Peter Uihlein

Pat Perez

Rory Sabbatini

Beau Hossler

Charles Howell III

TJ Vogel

Haotong Li

Bud Cauley

Count me in on the Champ train.

From that list, in terms of overall potential

1. Niemann
2. Grace

Howell III is good cause he tees it up in many events your big names wont play. Perez tends to clean up in the fall not the best pick if the league starts in January

Hossler seems to be steadily ascending and could break out but too uncertain for a season long bet and too much of a horse for certain courses in my opinion

take the giant list and filter it for 1) young, 2) went to big golf school

nieman
uhlein (ok state?)
wise
hossler

how is vogel (USC) in? i know he monday qualfied an incredible number of times. almost like he skipped web.com . he was i think top 10 2017 in canada.

Doesn't the CDN open move also?

Jeff Overton
did overton get an injury exemption? Last I heard his back was in bad shape and going through surgery.
10-09-2018 , 10:11 PM
Overton is not on the list of injury exemptions that pgatour.com compiles and has essentially no status.

tj vogel is playing the first stage of web.com q-school this week. he monday qualified a bunch last year, which is obviously unsustainable.

---

yes, the canadian open has moved into memphis's old spot the week before the US Open.
several other tournaments got moved around too: the wgc-mexico is now the week after Los Angeles, the Texas Open is now the week before the Masters, etc..
10-11-2018 , 04:28 AM
Sorry about that list. It was just a list of guys that jumped out at me. Some of the guys are obviously young, while others (Overton) are old or injured or just guys I thought were good but were having a down year thinking they might bounce back.

The Vogel thing told me he's a pressure guy. I know Monday qualifiers are tough, but I felt that was a function of him not having his tour card. If he gets his card, he should be pretty cheap low risk, high reward guy.

I know must of you will welcome this news but I was a big fan of Miller:

Johnny Miller to retire as NBC golf analyst

I liked Miller a lot--probably my favorite "in the booth" guy of the last decade or so.

USA#1 becomes the first country to have four players win the four World Golf Championships. Phil Mickelson won the Mexico Championship, Bubba Watson won the Dell Match Play, Justin Thomas won the Bridgestone Invitational, and today Xander Schauffele won the HSBC Champions.

Also, Rosey Palms' comes up just short from recapturing WNO.

Re: Cameron Champ

Announcers acting like they've never seen a long hitter before

560 yd par 5, driver wedge

3 whacks of course
11-04-2018 , 05:17 PM
DeChambeau in position for another win. would be his third in his last five starts (and move him into the top 5 of the world). what a beast!
11-04-2018 , 05:59 PM
champ and dechambeau are both awesome.......... just gonna make it harder for a bunch of the current top players to win majors. (it was already really crowded)...

our local star player (adam hadwin) has mentioned how difficult it is to beat all these big hitters every week. if just one gets hot, it's hard for a player like adam to keep up on a long course. i was thinking champ here, not necessarily dechambeau.

rickie fowler copping to using a game improvement 4-iron. i love it. surprised though he's hitting 4-iron off the tee alot. would have thought it's too much loft.
