Why can’t Tiger and Phil be together?

I think DJ/koepka should be split up for 4 ball but play together for 4somes given their strategy would mirror one anothers. They simply make too many birdies to need to be together for 4ball so I’d split them up.

Tiger/Bryson Phil/Finau

Spieth/Reed JT/Rickie

Koepka/DJ Bubba/Webb

also **** pods for some of it. I’d want to see Bryson, finau, JT, koepka, and DJ play every event. Tiger probably should just play 1 a day based on wanting to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself. Spieth and reed can play like 3x together. Rickie, Phil, bubba, and Webb sit on the sidelines most of the weekend.

I've been watching the old Ryder Cups on golf channel. It's amazing how bad some of the bottom of the European teams were. The 93 team had 4 guys who never ever made a cut in the masters.

The US probably does a better job than anywhere else in the world of making golf accessible to minors.

Has there ever been a worse captain's pick than Sergio?

I hope Phil & Sergio play against each other again. In the last Ryder cup, their match was also as good as Reed vs Rory..

looks like it was Knox who played the PGA tour that year and was ranked 20th in the world at that time. Westwood was 46th and Kaymer was 50th.

In an absolute sense, both teams are probably the best ever. In a relative sense it's a pretty bad euro team.

His form at the time of the pick was pretty bad as far as I remember and it seemed like he was just picked by his best mate for historic reasons.

I'm not going to go back to see who he might have picked instead, I just think that Garcia is a far better pick this time than Westwood was last time.

euro 1 5 6 7 12 16 19 23 26 29 34 44
usa 2 3 4 8 9 10 13 14 15 17 21 25
both teams do seem pretty loaded.

quick back look at 2002
euro 8 12 17 11 47(Fulke) 20 39(McGinley) 33(Fasth) 21 51( Phillip Price) 61 25

usa 1 2 3 18 9 6 15 10 27 30

Maybe those no namers who I never heard of were bigger names in 2002 than I recall.

Brett Wetterich was a member of the 2006 ryder cup team. At that time he had never played in the Masters or the US Open and missed the cut in the Open and the PGA.

JJ Henry was also on the team that year, he also had never played in the Masters and played in the US Open 3x finishing 64, 57, mc. Played in open that year and mc and played in the pga that year and 41. Those guys were ranked 64th and 68th at the time and made the team on points.

Vaughn Henry also made the team that year. He had played in the masters once and mc. He didn't even get into the US Open that year, he T66 in the open and got cut in the PGA. He won the Reno-Taho open in 04 and 05. He was ranked 60th.

Zach Johnson made that team as well and his results were pretty crappy as well.

What a joke of a team, got trounced 18.5 to 9.5. Tiger/Phil pairing going 0-2 didn't help. man usa golf was bad.

Looks like the Presidents Cup Worlds Team would have had all the talent at that time. #4,5,6,7, 10, 12, 20, 21, 27, 29, 31, 33, 34, 35, 40, 44, 49

I’m pretty psyched—will attend the Friday matches with 3 other Americans and 2 LOLEuros

The matchups could be incredible.

in 2014 they had world number 1(Rory), 3(Sergio), 5(Stenson) and 6(Rose), with Rory being by far the best player in the world. they also had world #12 Kaymer coming off a US open win.

all of those players except for Rose have declined significantly since 2014. they are probably deeper now with the additions Rahm/Fleetwood/Molinari but nowhere near as good at the top as the 2014 team.

If you haven't heard them, episodes 162 and 163 of the No Laying Up podcast on an oral history of the Ryder Cup from 1999-2016 are pretty good.

Hal Sutton is much more interesting character than I ever realized. Apparently he has 4 ex wives and his nickname on tour is Halimony.
