Good for Phil, he's been having an unreal so far and has been unlucky to not win yet.

Is nobody else bothered by the fact that whenever Mickelson is in trouble he finds the nearest sprinklerhead/obstruction and plans the direction of his shot and width of his stance with only a free drop as the goal rather than applying the rule honestly? I've always tried to be honest in these spots but nobody seems to dislike him for it or really even notice. And I'm kinda pissed JT didn't win after that epic holeout.

Should I just be taking a Mickelson drop every time I don't like my spot and there's a sprinklerhead within an armspan? I hate the idea but if I'm at a disadvantage by not Mickelsoning at every opportunity I should prob just accept it.

It’s moderately angleshooty but legal...and when you’re playing for nine zillion dollars I think “letter of the law” is fine, and much more ok than on your random weekend round.

This golf season has been so good and is likely to get better.

Mickelson seems to be experienced with insider information ("I'm going to win soon").

It's not legal. But perhaps the rule should be changed to something more objective so the Cheat Mickelsons can't take advantage of the honest players.

I think the proper name for a questionable drop is a "Hoffman".

Tiger's boulder was more dramatic but pretty clearly within the rules

Same my home course is 600 feet or so. Would probably mess with your mind a bit. Would probably just change my range finder to meters

Pretty sure the PGA is using a local rule this year that you can only get relief from bunker liners if it effects the swing and not the stance. They must have gotten sick of those drops.

Go get 'em Phil! The team in Paris needs Phil swinging sticks, not talking into a walkie-talkie.

Yeah the actual rule is pretty terrible because the spots where you'd benefit most from a free drop (standing on steep bunker walls) are also the spots where you can pretty easily find bunker liner if you dig in. I haven't heard about the new local rule but I like it.

The rules definitely need angleproofing but if sounds like they're moving in the right direction.

It was clearly an angle shoot, and is now against the rules.
