So how does Finau win this then? If he finishes 2nd, wtf else has to happen? I don't see any specific scenarios and don't feel like doing the math.

Anyone but Rose, DeChambeau, Dustin, Justin Thomas, Keegan, Bubba, Koepka, Horschel winning
Finau solo 2nd
DeChambeau not solo 3rd

That’d be all that’s needed really.

Saw a stat that since 2013 42% of 54-hole leaders end up winning on the PGA tour. Tiger has won 95.5% of the time during his career. Pretty sick stat.

Still a little worried though. Tiger looked tight on the back 9 yesterday. Obvious he wants the W badly and I wonder if the pressure gets to him. He's been in position on Sunday a couple of other times this season and played some very bad holes to knock himself out of it.

At the 2019 Tour Championship, players will start with staggered scores with the leader of the FedEx Cup coming into the tournament beginning the event at 10 under. Here is how players will start.

First in FedEx Cup coming to Tour Championship: -10
Second: -8
Third: -7
Fourth: -6
Fifth: -5
6th-10th: -4
11th-15th: -3
16th-20th: -2
21st-25th: -1
26th-30th: E
So if everyone scored the same, and they were playing under the new format, I think the leaderboard to start Sunday would look like this. Might not be too bad

Rose - 17
Woods -14
Finau -12
McIlroy - 11
Dustin -10
Horschel -9
Dechambeau -8
Thomas -8

Agree, he looked very tentative on the back nine. Hope he wins, but still worried about Rory - he has missed a bunch of putts...

This would have made for a much better sweat today than the current format.

It also makes for much better competitive golf when all competitors know where they stand and are all competing for the same result. It was very obvious today that Tiger was playing to win the tournament and Rose was playing to win the Fedex Cup.

i don't have any opinion on next year's format but i'm glad it wasn't in place today. the victory for Tiger would not have been quite as satisfying if his name was not on top of the leaderboard, and you know a bunch of haters would have been trying to say it wasn't a "real" win because Rose's name was at the top of the leaderboard.

it's going to be weird next year - are players going to have any idea where they stand in the tournament? you almost have to keep two separate leaderboards.

of course they're going to know how they stand in the tournament ... there will be leaderboards. why would you keep a separate leaderboard? there is only one contest being contested.

that was a short stint at WN1 for Rosey Palms.

Yes.. and Rose still would have won the FedEx by one shot (-14 to tigers -13)

So I guess nothing would have changed.

No, you don't get it. There would have been only one competition, and tiger would have won it along with the $10M+.

According to Dominic's post above:

Tiger starts -2 for being in 20th place + -11 = -13
Rose starts -8 for being in 2nd place + -6 = -14

Tiger was playing for the win. If he had to score lower he would have, easily

And Rose was playing to protect his Fed Ex cup win. If he had to score lower he would have. See how that works?

Don't want to pair Bubba with Phil, what about putting Bubba and Webb together for religious purposes? Thrown them in with Tiger and Bryson which means pairing Finau with Phil.

Spieth
Reed
Fowler
Thomas

Woods
DeChambeau
Watson
Simpson

Johnson
Koepka
Mickelson
Finau

Could live with swapping Simpson and Finau in the above as well.

Although I could see pairing Tiger's duo with DJ's duo leaving:

Johnson
Koepka
Woods
DeChambeau

Watson
Simpson
Mickelson
Finau

Anybody else got some pod predictions?
Finau, Koepka, Simpson and Watson currently out on the course practicing in the same group.
