Extreme changes for the FedEx Cup next year...

This is bonkers....

At the 2019 Tour Championship, players will start with staggered scores with the leader of the FedEx Cup coming into the tournament beginning the event at 10 under. Here is how players will start.

First in FedEx Cup coming to Tour Championship: -10
Second: -8
Third: -7
Fourth: -6
Fifth: -5
6th-10th: -4
11th-15th: -3
16th-20th: -2
21st-25th: -1
26th-30th: E

That's like giving the number 1 seed a 21-0 lead before coin toss of the Super Bowl

Lol PGA Tour

Also, Koepka could win the TC, two majors yet still not win the FedEx

maybe EnglishLad isn't that familiar with American football ... but that analogy is pretty bad. last season the average NFL team scored 21.7 points per game.

giving an NFL team a 21 point head start (not equal to sign) giving a PGA Tour player a two stroke head start.

regarding the new Tour Championship format, i think it could be pretty good. looking forward to seeing a few iterations of the format play out.

The bigger problem is giving 500 points to rhe winner of the John Deere and only 600-700 for majors and WGC

I didn't think it was broken but I do not mind it. I think the PGA would be well served ending the Fed Ex cup before NFL regular season starts. That may be part of the plan also?

New system seems no worse than the current system, at least fans will easily know who is actually winning the FedEx cup.

It does seem to hurt the guy in 5th place the most in terms of how much tougher it will be to win vs. this year.

Also the winner gets fifteen million bucks, I guess that's enough to even make millionaire pro golfers take notice.

So assuming it's not going to count as an official event and the winner won't actually get anything and only used to determine the fedex cup winner/final FedEx standings?

what is status of a young player who makes pga tour after one year on web.com, then loses PGA card and does poorly in web.com playoff?

back to exempt to 3rd stage of web.com which means automatically get very very weak web.com status? of course, if you do well at 3rd stage, good web.com status

there are 3 canadian players that seem to have hung around pga/web.com forever without that much
major success. my strong sense is it's much easier to stick around than it is to make it in first place

Yeah, 4 of the bottom 6 are on our (USA#1) RC Team.
Pulling for Tiger, but I think Rory wins this event...

Reed doesn't have a top 10 since the US Open, Phil's last top 10 was the beginning of May.

I tried to find it but couldn’t- I’m guessing before they decided to switch up the FedEx Cup point structure they did an analysis of how it would have affected years prior? I’m sure I could spend a couple hours figuring it out but does anyone know how it would have changed the past couple seasons?

Least person I'd worry about regarding Ryder Cup. Those events tickle his whistle just right.

Yeah form can be important (remember the hot streak Molinari was on right before he won the Open), but these top guys often have a bad week or two, and all of a sudden find it again during practice. Even Rose missed the cut a couple of weeks ago.

That being said Phil certainly does seem to be hitting the ball all over the place lately. Honestly I'd feel better with Xander out there, guy is steady and solid.

Not sure of all the permutations BUT I am pretty sure that Tiger has a much better than legit chance of winning the FEDEX CUP. Crazy.
