looking forward to your thoughts after walking the course. i think the combined #3/#11 green is the largest in the U.S.
That green is probably 100 yards across. Very unimpressed with the course, goofy Bermuda greens, definitely not in great shape. They're fine, but wouldn't surprise me to hear some complaints throughout the week. Some rain yesterday so it was pretty tame. As it dries out with the heat, it could become interesting. Huge slopes and runoffs everywhere on and around the greens.

thx westhoff for the lowdown.

pgatour.com had a solid write-up on the course (one of the longer pieces i've seen on the site):

It may take time

Trinity Forest, new home of the AT&T Byron Nelson, is a course unlike any other in Texas – but how quickly will the pros embrace it?

https://www.pgatour.com/long-form/20...ue-course.html

link contains 4 flyover previews of 4 holes w/ Geoff Ogilvy commenting on strategy. why Ogilvy? that was my question ... maybe he's a member??

could be a course which comes into its own in a decade or so.

Spent Monday and Tuesday on the range and equipment vans. It's a mess. Range is probably 3/8 mile from the clubhouse and on the other side of a road. Public is supposed to park ~6 miles away and bus it in. The very few roads in and out are two lanes. Course is in the middle of a run down area. Volunteers still trying to figure everything out which is understandable. And the pros I've heard from hate the course.

2 year deal was signed for this course and that will be it.

I don't go to many events, so how unusual is it to have remote parking these days? The last couple I've attended had parking 3-5 miles away and a very adequate bus system. Even if I had a 36 hole venue I'm not sure I'd want to chew up the 2nd course putting cars on it.

And I cannot wait to hear the commentary if the tour nails down the deal with Quicken Loans to have a tournament at Detroit GC starting next year.

Yeah I don't know how many courses have enough parking, almost every event here in the NY area has remote parking and shuttle buses.

On another note, at what point do we seriously start to worry about Spieth finding his putting stroke again? Fighting to make the cut and having another bad putting week. It is amazing to see this level of drop-off by a guy who was considered maybe on track to be in the best putter of all time a couple of years ago.

And the reverse jinx works again... as soon as I post about Spieth's putting he starts draining birdie putts

They had remote parking with buses at the old course for the Byron Nelson as well. Like others have said, remote parking is standard for most tournaments.

From what I have heard, AT&T spent alot of money on the course and want to make it work. I'm guessing it's there much longer than 2 years. Eventually, they could possible move it to Frisco where they are building the new PGA of America course, but I think AT&T wants to keep it in Dallas. And AT&T did not like the old course (and neither did most of the players), so I don't think going back there would be much of an option. However, I think the players' wives loved the old course because the resort took great care of them.

Langer has probably gone through much worse putting ups and downs throughout his career. Spieth will ultimately be fine.

Yeah, there was remote parking at TPC but it wasn't that far away. And the course had multiple highways around it. And there was still parking close to the site at the high school and such. It's simply not going to work very well.

AT&T does have a vested interest having the tournament at Trinity Forest, but if it doesn't work the PGA Tour isn't going to keep it there. Almost every inside I've spoken with literally laughs at where they are having this tournament. I'll be real curious to compare gate attendance to last year's event.

I can’t go this year because I’m out of town this weekend. But I’ll be interested to hear what the weekend crowds are like. In the past, the tourney had a good atmosphere and big parties during and after the round. I’m hearing that it’s not much of a party vibe and that the pavilion/party area is much smaller. If that’s true, then I don’t see the fans liking this location as much.

Spieth should stop doing anything but practice putting. Here are some highlights from this tournament (all par putts):

Shot 3 31 ft 3 in. to green, 3 ft 3 in. to hole
Shot 4 putt 6 ft 2 in., 2 ft 7 in. to hole

Shot 3 putt 23 ft 7 in., 15 in. to hole
Shot 4 putt 2 ft 9 in., 2 ft 0 in. to hole

Shot 3 putt 14 ft 9 in., 2 ft 10 in. to hole
Shot 4 putt 5 ft 5 in., 2 ft 9 in. to hole

Yeah his tee to green game is excellent, maybe better than ever this year, but his putting has gone awol.

It's not just missed putts, it's the way he's missing them. He's hit some truly horrific putts, even some mis-hits. He's lost all confidence in his putting stroke and it's painful to watch him on the short ones. He's had the occasional round where he putts well and you think it's about to turn around... but then he looks terrible again the next day.

if Wise wins, he'd move up to #12 in the ryder cup rankings. we could see this kid in Paris!

Also not a huge fan of this course, and I rarely complain about courses being boring.

Wise is looking like the real deal. It's fun thinking about how many great golfers are 5 or so years from getting on tour.

not to take anything away from Wise b/c he looks like a nice talent, but keep in mind the SOF for this event is going to be very low (only 7 of the top 50 in the field). it's going to be like winning a run-of-the-mill Euro Tour event.

again ... you can only knock down the pins that are put in front of you, so kudos to the kid. i'm sure many more titles are in his future (quite possibly even this season).

Agree not the strongest field. But still, -23 is -23. Dudes got major talent and should be fun to watch in the coming years.

No posts on this weeks tourney but gold medalist Justin Rose takes it down. -4, -6, -4, -6. At 37 years old he may be playing the best on tour currently.

I plan on going to the Open in a couple weeks so I’m sure he’ll be someone to watch.
