Not much material on the Jack side, no thanks.

Seriously. As someone who thinks Tiger is better, and the person who posited the exercise, I thought I would try to make the argument for Jack, then I twiddled a pen around my fingers for a few minutes and wrote down on a post-it "18", then whistled, then circled it. Then I doodled like..a tree kinda thing, then I drew a dog. I'm sorry where was I? I think that's as far as I got. I'll try again later.

Before this thread I would have never guessed there was any reasonable amount of people under the age of 30 who thought Jack > Tiger.

Guys like BO thinking he's better is whatever really, same thing happens in every sport.

Though a bit clunky, this looks like a reasonable discussion...

Can Tiger catch Jack?

Just lol, so much wrong with this post. The fact that you think courses were easier back in the day makes everything you said irrelevant because its just so lolololol

Its fact. Courses were not set up near as hard or as long as they are today. I mean you think Tiger is 3rd GOAT. Im still laughing about that. They called it "Tigerproofing" for a reason

We both know I consider Tiger's number to be 17 to Jack's 20.

Nearly every course on tour is significantly longer, with more difficult slope and rating, and has more difficult greens than their classic counterpart.

If we are going to have a discussion lets try sticking to facts and not gotcha posts.

I'll play and argue for Jack.

Jack has been married to the same person for 86 years.
Jack as a child would never think to step on a crack that might break his mothers back.

...that's all I gots

Funny thing about the Tiger Jack debate is I really doubt anyone involved in the most recent iteration was watching golf on TV in the 70's so they really don't know Jack's game the way they know Tiger's.

I was, but because I'm old I'm certainly in the minority. Also started reading everything I could golf related in the late 70's including Jack's biography.

But you are correct, hardly anybody here has any knowledge of Jack's game. And that makes debate near impossible.

With the way people argue around here, no one needs to know a thing about Jacks game since the only thing that supposedly matters is the number of majors

Knowing Jack's "game" is a meaningless exercise. The numbers simply do not lie.

It's like people who say things like David Eckstein was a key cog in the wheel of multiple world series championship teams. No, he wasn't. He was a short guy who was severely over-rated. If you didn't know who David Eckstein was, and simply looked at everyone's numbers you'd be like "Whoever Player #38278-A-287(b)(8)38D was kinda sucked at baseball"

It simply doesn't matter how "great a driver of the golfball" he was, or how "well he managed the course" or his "gritty determination and drive" or his "inexplicably-presumed faithfulness to his ugly wife", or whatever else the cornhole-sniffers concoct. All of that (except for the stupid marriage stuff) is reflected in the stats. And the stats prove that Tiger is better by a wide margin.

Jack is probably closer to the third-best golfer OAT than he is to Tiger.

What do you trust? A bunch of 40-year old books about how Jack's legs were stronger than those of Tom Platz while his torso musculature rivaled that of a silverback gorilla, along with some fireside stories about how he once shot a 49 in a twilight practice round at a no-name muni? Or a bunch of cold, hard statistics?

Oh BO, sorry, but you reading books 40 years ago does not really put you in any better position to judge Jack's GOATness than a man with a computer and PGA Tour Stats loaded up.

I want to see a Venn diagram of the "Jack Morris is a hall of famer" crowd and the "Jack Nicklaus was better than Tiger Woods" crowd. I bet the circles overlap completely.

Jack is a egomaniac ( lol like Tiger)

one of Jack's early books he has a tracing of his hand stating,

"this is the hand of a major champion" or some such nonsense.

in actuality he had to use an interlock as the Vardon grip wouldn't work with his stubby fat fingers.

yeah he was good. so far ahead of everyone as far as the mental side of things. Everyone else was boozing it up and whoring while Jack was plotting how to dissect the course. Plus he has a whiney irritating voice. Still he's the GOAT of his time, and he's mellowed since he quit competitive golf.
It will be interesting to see of Tiger mellows or remains a big douche-bag like his idol Jordan when he becomes irrelevant.

I've yet to see stats that conclusively prove this.
