I do think Phil is a huge failure. With his talent he should have won 14 majors by the end of his career.
Lol.

Tiger done flipped the script hasn't he?

I'm pretty sure if the average person added up how many majors "should have" been won by particular players over the last 10 years, the cumulative total majors would would be like 85. There are only so many majors.

You can't expect Sergio to have 6 by now, Phil to have 12, Tiger to have 14, Stricker to have 3, Furyk to have 3, Rory to have 5, Bubba to have 4, etc....

Drives me nuts when people say "I thought ______ would have had several more majors by now". They say this about like twelve different players. "Why hasn't Lee/Hunter/Kuchar/Luke, etc. won a major by now??"

It's like people don't know how numbers work.

ARC, serious question. I know this is a big IF, but how many majors do you think Phil would have if there was no Tiger? I think he would be into double digits, but seeing Tiger win tourney after tourney deflated him mentally. At some point he had to start thinking "great, I'm playing in the same era as the GOAT. He's got me playing for 2nd and keeping me from putting up some sick numbers" .

It means Tiger made it impossible for anyone playing during his time to have a great career. Don't you see?

How many solo 2nds does Phil have in majors won by Tiger?

Also it's pretty weird to go to bat for Phil. At least 25% of the majors set up inordinately well for a lefty (Augusta). He already has an advantage over everyone with the possible exception of Bubba/Weir in that regard. Guy can't even win a US Open because he can never keep his driver out of the tall rough.

I don't think it's quite as simple as seeing how many times he finished in 2nd behind Tiger. I'm not a fan of Phil's at all, but I think he could've put up a pretty big # if he hadn't spent his career stuck playing for 2nd. But that's just my opinion. And of course, there's no way to know the answer.

Fun with inflation: Tiger's now won more money just at Arnold's tournament than Arnold won his entire career --PGA Tour, Senior Tour and international events combined.

The discussion over saying a naughty word is perhaps the most idiotic and lol worthy in 2+2 history.

How will that poor 5 year old go on? Is his life ruined? Perhaps he should be institutionalized to protect us all because having heard a scary black man say **** his only real life course is drug addict and criminal.

Tiger lost way more majors than he won. Phil isn't playing for 2nd in every major. Phil finished 2nd in 7 different majors. There are tons of guys Phil couldn't beat: Payne Stewart, Tiger Woods, Refief Goosen, Geoff Ogilvy, Lucas Glover, Darren Clarke, David Toms.

Quite the harrowing list!

Phold basically has cleaned up at Augusta, specifically hole 13, and finished runner up at 5 US Opens. He almost never comes close to competing for an Open C'ship, and other than his 1 PGA win, has 1 runner-up.

I only looked back two pages, but I saw this on someone's facebook and thought it was pretty stellar.

*edit* I should have gone back one more page. Stupid to think it wasn't discussed. Ignore me, guys.

Reid,

Your clip is better it shows him climbing up and eventually back down. Why couldn't he have fallen? I haven't been a Sergio fan ever since he spit in the hole at he Ryder Cup.

I always thought number of major wins was a silly way to rate a career. PGA golf week to week has a huge amount of variance so to place particular emphasis on 4 'random' (yes, I know they are the strongest tournaments of the year, masters maybe only exception) and the players do want to win them slightly more.

But other then that they are basically the same as any other tournament. Look at Tiger this year, he has now won three PGA events so if he wins the masters it's not because he wants it more it's because he is playing better then anyone else.

They are not the same. JFC is the Superbowl just another game? Daytona just nuther race? Main event just nuther MTT?

Real championships are all that matters in any sport. The regular season is just practice.

Superb iron shots by Tiger on 16 and 17. Fowler's uncertainty over his second on 16 led to his demise. Even his waggles were tentative.

Look, if Jack didn't spend his mental energy on controlling his language on the course, who knows how many majors he would have won. 25? 30? 40 or more?
