Nice field this week for Arnie's tourney. Looking forward to watching some golf this weekend.

Rumors have it a vast majority of the players were reading scripture prior to their rounds

I'd imagine that the people who play it to honor the man will continue to play it to honor the memory. I wonder if Palmer thinks of Bay Hill or Firestone more as home?

I just remember a year or two ago in this forum I think someone was saying the players hate Bay Hill (except for a few holes that are elite - I hate it in TW golf, too) and they only play it because Arnie. Just wanted some thoughts on that.

What's the significance of Bay Hill other than Arnie being a member there? Is the event held at that course for any particular reason?

He's not a member. He owns Bay Hill.

I've played it a bunch. Outside of 6-7 really excellent holes, the course is kinda meh. I would bet they play it for awhile after he kicks the bucket, but eventually move on.

I would guess that most players would honor his memory. Though as great as he looks i see him being around a bit longer.

Tiger won't let them move it, but maybe after he retires.

The stars will stop playing once Arnie dies. The tournament will then be renamed "the Orlando Championship presented by National Rental Cars. Go like a pro !"

Private/Resort basically.

It'll be awkward to see how much less media coverage Sam Saunders suddenly gets once grandpa Arnold dies.

Not everyone shares your crazy worldview. Weird, right?

You don't think it will be awkward when you suddenly stop hearing about Sam Saunders simply because his legendary grandpa dies?

I think it will be awkward.

Not sure how that's a "crazy worldview".

I think when I don't hear about someone I won't feel awkward. I think expecting other people to feel awkward when we don't hear about someone at some uncertain future date is consistent with having a crazy worldview.

I mean, I'm not legitimately going to feel awkward. Jesus.

It's more of an observation of how I think he gets a lot of attention because his grandpa is Arnold. And I think a lot of that will stop once Arnold dies.

Basically, a minor cringeworthy moment for humanity.

Still don't equate that with having a "crazy worldview". The media suckles at the teet of Arnie. When there is no Arnie there will be less suckling. Sucks for Sam but I guess he's had a nice run being the grandson of a legend that the media adores.

Byron Nelson's name is still on his tournament, and I imagine will continue to be for a long time to come. Arnie will be the same.

Also of note this week is that Tiger will pass Ernie Els for most weeks in the OWGR top ten. He's at 788 right now, so he looks like he's a favorite to hit a thousand.

It will be awkward for Saunders because he will get less attention unless his game improves a lot. Why would it be awkward for anyone else? Nobody thinks about him at all anyways. Nobody will think twice about not hearing his name.
