Only an issue if it happens when it matters imo.

It would be a story if anyone putted the way he did last week.

I don't recall where he finished, and that would have been the first major he hadn't won since the Masters the previous year so his lack of contending (?) was probably the second biggest story behind the multiple debacles on 18.

There just isn't anything I can remember about that. Plenty of other non-Tiger years around then are memorable. 1997 at Congressional for the Els/Monty/Maggert/Lehman finish. 1998 for the 18th green, the Janzen luckbox and the Stewart fade. 1999 for Payne and Phil dueling to the end. 2003 for Bruce Edwards and Tom Watson, and everyone railing on Olympia Fields (which in retrospect seems a bit harsh). 2004 for the 7th green, Goosen making everything, and Phil three putting the 17th from like four feet. 2005 for Jason Gore and Goosen playing a Nassau after they blew up in the final round and Olin Browne being a similarly fat but somehow less lovable version of Gore.

But 2001...nothing.

and Michael Campbell ( who fell off the face of the earth) beat Le Tigre by two strokes.

This article has various of his putting stats, moderately interesting:

It was his lowest tournament putting total, which I think speaks volumes about where his game is. Both putting, and more importantly, his wedges and short irons.

Now check this...from pgatour.com

""""Tiger Woods had a record putting week, rolling it a career-low 100 times to win the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship on Sunday. But shockingly, he didn't have close to the best week on the greens, total putts-wise. That would belong to Brian Gay, who put up an impressive 93 putts."""""

23.25 putts per round??? He musta been scrambling around the entire course to have that little putts and still finish at -1.

Stricker and Tiger were 1-2 on strokes gained. Crazy numbers. 2 strokes gained a round on the field. Good game if he's putting like that.

Ah yes, he stared down Tiger in a win which springboarded him to greatness. Has he even made a cut since then?

Pinehurst does absolutely nothing for me, but after the massive retro overhaul maybe that will change.

Was Michael Campbell the guy who went off to the outhouses to do some silly eye training exercise with a golf tee or something? I don't know if I'm remembering that or making that up

This is a valid point. And maybe it's recency bias, but I just don't remember him kinda gagging coming down the stretch with a big lead.

could have won the Open in 95 shot 76 final round. lost to Daly, Rocca by one stroke. also Mark Brooks could have won. hit in hell bunker.

Mark Brooks has all the majors he deserves though, one. He had a Ben Curtis-like way of being completely invisible for long stretches and then showing up to contend at majors.

Not to mention that Tiger and Stricker are actually friends off the course. NBD for friend to help a friend.

If it was Phil helping Tiger on his thumbs-up, then we have a story

Tiger not putting very well.

Tiger gets tip night before tournament from competitor.

Tiger putts better than he ever has and beats the guy who gave him said tip by a few shots.

I like to lol at the media as much as anyone but this was clearly worth talking about.

Something that has gotten lost in TW's putting from last week was the fact that Brain Gay only had 93 putts for the week, almost 2 fewer per round than TW. Even not hitting a bunch of greens (which I would look up, but the PGA Tour and WGC sites are AIDS for stats right now) that's crazy low.

little over 23 putts a round. how is that even possible. 23 putts in one round, great. 23 putts in back to back rounds, omg. 4 in a row!!!!! r.u.serious! pretty much 1.3 putts a hole for 72 holes.

wonder what the record for lowest amount of putts for a pga tourney is.

its david frost with 92 in 05 harbor town! amazing

I don't think I've ever had 92 for even 3 rounds in a row.
