I wonder if Romo tried to go golf pro before football and couldn't and switched to football. Has worked out for him, yes, I know his playoff disasters but money wise super solid NFL career.
He seems to enjoy golf more then football though...

what makes you think he would make it as a pro? He ripped up the pennisula from the whites? lot scratch players, not a lot of professionals. let him and Jerry Rice have a game, Jerry is a legit +1 and he shoots 75,76 ( which is scratch scores) at TPC San Francisco Web.com tour the two times he played as a sponsor exemption.

I think Romo probably enjoys football a lot. Both playing the game and the lifestyle of being Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback.

He always tries to qualify for the US Open though. His team was like 28 under and his partner was 8 under so he has game

He didn't say he would make it as a pro. He said he wondered if Romo tried to go pro.

He's one of the 16 best on the planet at the position that is widely considered the toughest to master in all of sports.

Golf is hard but playing NFL quarterback is significantly harder. Apparently he's a +3 right now but you can't just subtract strokes under the assumption that he'd get noticeably better if he gave it full-time effort. He likely would have never been a pro because as you say it's a numbers game. But being a +3 while leading his busy life of being the Cowboys' QB is very impressive.

the only football players who went pro and won was John Brodie, on the champions tour, and that was when it was fairly weak.

OK? I don't know what your point is.

You seem to be acting like a world-class athlete who is a top-16 in the world at a ridiculously tough position to play could never master golf enough to be a top 500 player (or however many allow you to play on PGA or web.com...Europe, etc.)

The guy has a full-time job where his body gets beaten up on the regular and he plays golf part-time and maintains a +3.

It's not an outrageous thing to ponder. I still doubt he would have gone pro though for reasons already stated.

first of all he's not a +3 he's a +0.3 and his two lowest T scores in the last twelve months aren't under par. he's scratch barely. No he will never be good enough to be a pro. If he started as a youth and focused on golf? who knows? chances are he'd be like 99.999% of all of us, an amateur.

..."Did Romo try to go pro in golf before football, couldnt so switched to football"....

When would he have tried? In highschool?

I heard someone in this forum during Pebble say Romo said he was playing to a +3 right now. That's where I got that from.

Again, you project things that people either aren't, or didn't say.

Some guy asked a question about whether or not Romo tried to go pro and you said "what makes you think he would have made it as a pro?" Not close to the question asked.

And now you are calling me, a very vocal Texans homer and Cowgirl hater, a Cowboys fan.

You should try to cut down on the projecting.

Sigh, at least A-rod understands my question. And in regards to trying golf before football, I don't mean literally turn pro and go for it, I mean, he would have known in HS and college if he was putting up pro style scores. Don't forgot Romo was undrafted so golf might have been his backup plan if he didn't make any NFL teams. Who knows.

I wouldn't be surprised though if he takes a shot at golf when he retires, not like he will have anything else to do.

Having played against Romo in many qualifiers in the DFW area I can tell you he is a very good golfer and not even close to being able to make it on any professional tour.

I hate Romo as a football player but like him as a person if that makes any sense. And as a golfer.

With how much the Golf Channel is trying to blatantly liken itself to NFL Network (they hired Ahmad Rashad on Morning Drive and the other day Kelly Tilghman was interviewing Al Michaels), I wouldn't mind seeing Romo get hired as a Golf Channel in-studio contributor when he retires. Handsome, well-spoken, not obnoxious, very famous, and actually has game. What I'm seen of Ahmad Rashad...he's ****ing terrible.

Man the 10th at Riviera is such an amazing little hole. Guys just getting wrecked on it, and almost as many other guys with short birdie putts.

I love it so much! It's getting close to being unfair with the speed of the green and slope though.

It's so ridiculous that we have to make the greens pretty much as fast as possible every tournament. Say they are rolling 12 now. Just make them 11 and that hole is the greatest par 4 in the world.

Yeah it's brutal. People making double-bogey like it's nothing. I think Kuchar tried to drive the green and ended up 20 yards short and took 5 strokes from there.

Even guys hammering their 3 wood were going long and left all day. No idea how people are supposed to play that hole if they want to maximize their chance of making exactly par. Rip a 2-iron down the hill and hope it settles down in that bowl then like...****ing putt it up onto the green from there???

Even if you lay up with a good angle, the pin is so far back and the green is so narrow with hazards on both sides that hitting a small wedge in there has to be a knee-knocker.

yeah, yeah, i know, i know. high school was the best for golf though. where i grew up it's literally all there was to do, so I'd golf 5,6,7 times a week on a $200/yr junior membership. all my HS friends golfed too. college was a much busier time, where I was much more broke, and my college friends largely do not golf. pretty sad. should be able to put more time/money into the game now though.

Being a broke college student is a rite of passage. I remember when I would find a dollar bill in my pocket that I wasn't aware of and get excited.
