Ok so I took the opportunity to rag on Miller and his consistently awful, smarmy and self-stroking commentary... sue me.
Do you think he will ever let us know that he shot a Sunday 63 in the US Open? Keeps that so close to the vest.

I couldn't believe how awesome it was the first time I went. I plan on going to the SHO every year. Looking forward to seeing Rory up close this year.

Golf on TV is fun but I seriously hate about 80% of the commentary. Every time the following conversation occurs I die a little:

"This putt's gotta break left, huh? I mean I'm guessing it's inside right or maybe just off the right edge."

"I don't know, I don't see a whole lotta break in it."

"I was walking this green last night and I think there's more break to this putt than I'd realized."

"Well let's see how he puts it."

"Ope, he missed it. Good line, just didn't hit it."

"How do you leave that putt short?"
For starters, you stand around for 15 minutes to see 3 shots (or two depending on day of the week).

Additionally, you miss all the action on other holes and are pretty 'out-of-the-loop' as to what is going on.

There is definitely an electricity and energy on-site that can't be replicated through a television, but I much prefer to be on my couch watching all of the action unfold.

i'm with UCBanana on this. have been to several pro events (including four majors, brag ldo) and it is pretty overrated. sitting on the coach watching on TV is the better experience imo.

And it was almost never anyone in contention, it was just completely random.

I love Pebble Beach, but this is probably my least favorite tournament to watch.

Is Brandt Snedeker the next big thing in golf? Guy is having an unreal season so far.

Gotta win a major for that distinction, currently on a Steve Stricker career course...

He's much younger than Stricker was when he made his resurgence. Snedeker should be entering his prime.

Every time I go to a tournament, I wish I chose to play golf that day instead. Although it is neat to get a sense how insanely good these guys are and the distractions they have to deal with routinely.

Golf is the nut low for spectator sports. Great to play, fun to watch on TV, slow and boring as hell to watch someone play.

Never been to a PGA event live (because none are held anywhere near here) but It seems like something you'd want to do once, or maybe once every few years if there is an event near you. Worth it to see the action close-up and appreciate the skill of these golfers; not worth it for the price and travel troubles, the lack of action you can actually see, the crapshoot of who to follow or where to park yourself.

I hated walking around PGA tour events. I enjoyed being parked around 18 green when the leaders came through at the end, and I enjoyed watching the guys on the range. Trying to follow a group was not fun at all. Overall watching live was not near as good as watching on TV

I'm solidly in the find a comfy spot and watch groups come through. But yeah, there is a ton of downtime. I think the group followers might like following a group because navigating from spot to spot gives you something to do.

But I would recommend to anyone who has never been to go. Seeing these guys in person makes you realize the (for most people) absolute grand canyon sized chasm between them and us.

I've really enjoyed going live, even though I had followed the pro game for years without really being interested in going. I actually enjoy following groups and bouncing hole to hole, but can see how other people wouldn't - it can get uncomfortable, especially when it's hot, and tedious.

Snedeker becoming a star would be great for golf, if for no other reason than how quickly he plays.

My favorite thing about going to an event is sitting on the practice tee and around the chipping green. They are sooooooooo good its sick.

as said before I think, this tournament coverage sucks save for maybe sunday. does anyone know specifically why they don't have cameras at all on the other courses? I would think golf channel could set up a few cameras at the best hole or two at each other course and give us a few live shots of the other guys in the field....

is it part of the contract to always show pebble?

Well its looks like we may be seeing every shot of Bill Murray. Worse than seeing non stop Tiger coverage

My guess is that the technical challenges of having multiple courses into the same broadcast are more difficult than you would think. Not impossible or anything but a lot more expensive

Its so tilting to watch Kostis examine EVERY celeb's swing at 17. Can we please just show the real players play. (Yes, I know everyone has already said this)

I think I'd be ok if they just did a quick analysis and then moved on the talking for 5 min per pair is painful. I actually enjoy seeing swing critique of the non pros and seeing common mistakes etc
