Anyone notice the resurgence of Ashworth on the tour. Few years ago they almost dead and buried. Get bought out by Adidas I di believe and now a dominant clothing company on the PGA. Not bad for a striped shirt

Still to this day Tiger or Phil will draw in more viewers when in the hunt. Heck If John Daly was leading the Masters he would draw in more viewers

The Waste Mgmt open demonstrates how the fans will come out if they can have fun. The guy dancing on the 16th to gangman style turns him into an instant fan favorite. Who didnt like seeing the caddy races?
Yup. That's what so many traditionalists don't get. The Ryder Cup was sick awesome because it was like a football (both kinds of football) match. Loud, cheering, chants, etc. Same with the 16th in Phoenix. It's GREAT for the sport and people should embrace it.

The Ryder Cup is great because it's a team event and only occurs biannually, any more often and the football mentality would be irritating.

16 at Phoenix is similar, it's great once a year and brings in many non-golf fans. Any more often and it would be similar to Happy Gilmore or Caddyshack II, which would be an affront to golfers eveywhere.

As a traditionalist I don't have a problem with #16 once a year. I would never participate in such because I actually want to watch golf when I attend an event.

Have fun and try to grow the sport by creating an awesome atmosphere that exposes more people to it..............just don't do it very often!

His 2 "any more often and it would become irritating" examples are quite self-serving and fit his narrative nicely, considering there are no data on the effects of these two things occurring more often. So he can just make the claims and nobody can prove him wrong! It's decidedly ntnBOian of him.

Also it's silly to claim that the stadium hole would become "an affront to golfers everywhere", when dozens of golfers show up every year to play there. These guys don't have to play Phoenix. They do it for the purity of the game! Oh, and the money. The money helps.

I would welcome a stadium hole at Shell Houston. It would be awesome. And the "purists" should love it, too, as it would confine all the fratboy ******s to one corner of the course and let the purists enjoy watching Matthew Goggin tee off with a persimmon wood and a feathery on a hole a half-mile away without worrying about anyone yelling "Get in the hoooooooooole!"

Am I the only one who would prefer to watch golf on TV?

I was lucky enough to experience the Ryder Cup last year and the only thing remaining on my bucket list is Augusta -- but outside of that, watching golf live is miserable.

Going to the Ryder Cup and looking back on it makes me very much want to go again, at least once more in the US and for sure do one overseas.

What's miserable about it?

I couldn't believe how awesome it was the first time I went. I plan on going to the SHO every year. Looking forward to seeing Rory up close this year.

Golf on TV is fun but I seriously hate about 80% of the commentary. Every time the following conversation occurs I die a little:

"This putt's gotta break left, huh? I mean I'm guessing it's inside right or maybe just off the right edge."

"I don't know, I don't see a whole lotta break in it."

"I was walking this green last night and I think there's more break to this putt than I'd realized."

"Well let's see how he puts it."

"Ope, he missed it. Good line, just didn't hit it."

"How do you leave that putt short?"

"Well Roger he's got a hook lie into a slice wind with a draw setup and a push fade outlook on life"
"Well Roger with all this new equipment they're using nowadays no wonder they shoot such good scores"
"Well Roger this is an easy bunker shot I used to get this up and down 32 out of 20 times"

Ok so I took the opportunity to rag on Miller and his consistently awful, smarmy and self-stroking commentary... sue me.

I find myself not watching when Tiger doesn't play. Rory could be GOATing and it's just not as exciting as Tiger playing an average round.
