I don't agree with the descriptions of the various ratings, but I just rated them on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being the most favorable rating and 5 being least favorable.

I don't really get the "fake" hate.

If I were a pro golfer I'd be fake, too. I'm a loner and socially awkward (shocker) so I wouldn't really like being around raucous crowds and having to always be "on" and extroverted and signing stuff for kids so their dad can sell it and make money off me. Like, as a player I think hitting a tee shot on 16 at Scottsdale would be cool, but pandering to the crowd that just booed you by throwing hats up to them is like the last thing that I'd want to do with a smile on my face. But you just have to do it or else you're a "churlish dicknose" I guess.

But for the most part, I would do all that stuff. Because that's just kinda what being a pro golfer is all about. It's not just hitting the golf shots. I'd try to not cuss, not spit on TV, try to sign stuff, smile more, etc.

Doing all those things naturally doesn't make you a better person. It just means that stuff falls in your social comfort zone. Nothing wrong with faking it if it's difficult for you.

He's been "fake" for almost 20 years, "fake" signing autographs, "fake" being nice to people, "fake" caring about his brand and the people who support it. You can call it fake and pandering all you want, but he is good to people and Tiger isn't. Eventually it's no longer called fake. No matter how fake he supposedly is, I have no doubt that he is a better person in private than Tiger is.

It sure seems clear if you like Tiger your not a Phil fan and vice versa.

I do believe at times the folks that call Phil a fake just realize it is one Tigers big flaws in his personality and brand.

People think he, phil,is fake because it is true. I once played golf with a tour caddy and asked him to describe Phil...he chuckled and said simply he is a bad guy. Tiger is a dick nose because he has to be. His world requires walls and his specail talent makes him always fear the worst as no doubt he has seen plenty. He is a mans man. He panders only for money not for fame and likeability. And instead of giving autographs to rich white kids and shaking hands with corporate boobs he has a foundation and generates wealth and opportunity for a number of underprivileged minority youth.

This isn't an either or debate. Both Phil and Tiger are great golfers and big jerks.

A tour caddy says Phil is a bad guy. Reasons? I can't remember anyone saying anything specifically bad about Phil. I don't remember any bad stories. Not sure how he is a big jerk, because I haven't seen any evidence.

I don't "root" for Phil or Tiger, but golf-wise, I like them both. I loved watching Tiger at his peak, particularly in 2000. Phil has become easy to root for, now that he has toned down his go-for-broke style.
