I enjoy lolPhil'ing as much as the next guy, but something I find even more hilarious is some analysts. I couldn't tell you who it was, but I distinctly remember after his E or -1 last week say Torrey Pines one of them talking about how Phil is "built for the majors" or some equivalent horse ****. Basically saying he's probably just going to be going through the motions at non majors this year and really gearing up to focus on the majors.

In short, LOLOLanalysts

Pace of play is clearly an issue if they didn't get first round in with no notable delays...

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not but there was a frost delay that pushed back tee times.

That course certainly looks to be in ridiculous condition.

Phil's game may not be built for the majors, but he uses tourney's as tune-ups for major championships, which is his focus. He'll jerk around with his swing, set-up, clubs etc. to"tune" them for what he feels he needs for the next major. (same as Tiger) with the Masters two months off, he's just getting back into form after a pretty long lay off over the winter.

The course is definitely not hard, but it sure as hell ain't as easy as the scores they shoot. Those guys are just ridiculously good.
I've played this course a few times. If you hit it long/high/moderately straight, as every pro does, it has quite easy greens/generous landing zones, and generally benign conditions.

If you're an average hitter, it's going to present some challenges.

I mean if they'd let me play the tips there I'm not going to break par most likely (really annoyed me how much they babysat this course even in April), but I've played much much harder. Only hole I can think of that was really scary was 11.

But ya, for that many guys to be shooting 6 or more under is pretty crazy, even under perfect scoring conditions.

Unlike Tiger that cant be bothered to acknowledge a fan at an event. That Phil giving little kids high fives and giving golf balls to kids. All the time the the only thing tiger will give to is a two bit whore

Tiger cant be bothered to play in these events and give something back to the tour.

Though you are right about Phil's tax comment

I find it kinda dumb to criticize an athlete for not running around and giving high-fives, chatting and interacting with people while competing. We're all different - that stuff comes naturally to some and would be really difficult to combine with keeping their focus for others. It does not, in itself, mean the guy is an *******.

As for not giving back to the tour... what were they payouts and "net worth" of the pga tour before Tiger again..? The pga tour and everyone who has played on it since Tiger started, should have a picture of him on their wall that they daily give thanks to.

It's the tour and everyone who plays in it that owes Tiger. Not the other way.

Regardless of how you feel about him as a person, he is responsible for all the money that is in the game at this point. And every player you ask would acknowledge this.

I don't understand why people get so caught up in sports people's personalities. They have zero effect on your life unless you know them personally.

What does "he is responsible for all the money that is in the game" mean? The winner's check in the 1996 Masters was $450k. It reached that point from $60k, the winner's check in the 1981 Masters, in 15 years. I suppose it was never going to go up after that without Tiger, despite the fact that the money has increased exponentially in every single other existing major sport over the same time period?

I wouldn't call it a "meaningless tournament", but yeah, otherwise, the guy is being overly nitty. Then again, this is 2p2, where that is commonplace.

although no one can accurate calculate how much in $s tiger has influenced todays purses, there is no denying he is the main reason for golf's rise in popularity over the last ~15 years. even many of the more popular younger players these days admit tiger was one of the reasons they got into golf.

i mean before tiger golf had the stigma of being a rich white man's country club hobby at best. it was a community that most common avg joe's felt they didnt belong in, due to money or class level.

nowadays, at least in my city, they have programs for underprivileged kids from the inner city to learn golf at very early ages. dont think that was even contemplated pre tiger days.

not saying it wouldnt have happened without tiger but i doubt to this extent. the fact that he is biracial i believe had alot to do with it.

Mo question the payouts are huge because of Tiger. No question ratings are high when he is in contention. Golf has given Tiger his wealth I do believe his first tour win was Vegas. Has he ever been back?

No I dont want him to high five 40 year old guys. Though could he high five a 5 year old or give a ball to a little kid?

Personally I wish the PGA would adopt the LPGA rule were you have to play an event every four years.

Tiger has taken more from the tour than he has given
