With his pumping up the crowd and stuff, maybe he's just a really cocky SOB and thought bombing it everywhere was the right play, but it cost him yesterday.
Was he hitting his 3w well? Because he was murdering his driver dead straight.
I thought his approach on the 73rd hole was awful since Duke was already on in standard 2-putt range. He went flag hunting and came up a couple yards short of maybe ending it there.
Then, Duke hit the same type shot on the 74th hole but hit his juuust far enough and ended up winning.
Now that I know Duke nailed this shot type on the 74th hole (from further out), I think maybe his approach on 73 wasn't so bad. He just hit it a tad too short.
At any rate, aren't you nit-picking a bit much here? Duke hit both playoff greens in regulation and went par-birdie. Stroud hit the bunker then the green and then went scramble-par.
Was a great round - either guy could have won. Duke also dealt with seeing that chip-in daggar on the 72nd hole to force the playoff. How killer. But he came out and finished up strong.
