Man I thought the final round of the Aussie Open last month was windy. This is just unreal to play, no way calling it off was incorrect. I have been watching this event pretty religiously for over a decade and never remember anything nearly this inclement much less two days in a row (with more in the forecast).

Watching it is pretty hilariously brutal, as is the article describing the round. The 368 yard third hole had a long drive today of 248 yards. Rickie Fowler just hit his drive 215 yards and told Roger Maltbie that he killed it just to get that far. Guys are just slapping it around the green with no idea where it is going or when it will stop. And guys are doing a lot of standing around waiting for the weather to improve.

Thoughts on the re staring of all scores on round 1?

I didn't watch any of the coverage but sounds like complete bull**** IMO. If Simpson was 3 under through 7 the conditions couldn't have that bad

it looked pretty crazy out there on tv, slightly missed downhill putts were getting blown off the green by the wind. one of dufners balls found a bunker and basically just disapeared beneath wet sand and was unplayable.

the pga tour hasn't wiped out a round in seven years. there are provisions in the PGA tour rules allowing this if the conditions are deemed "grossly unfair". which they were. Slugger White says "it started out bad and got worse". 25 mph winds and then gusted to 40 with the heavy rain. they are trying to play 36 tomorrow off split tees. with a limited field if the weather cooperates they will. forecast is crap tomorrow though. it may end up 54.

Balls wouldn't stay still on the green and were being blown off at least one green. (#2) Pretty simple decision even though it's quite unusual.

Well, here's the good news: Next announcement will be the last one of the day. Won't have 10 one-hour delays. Unsure of contingency plans.


Not looking good for first event of the year, event would be unofficial with less than 54 holes.

Not a huge fan of scores being wiped out, but what can you do. FWIW Simpson ran hot with the putter to get to -3 but was in trouble on the 8th when play was stopped

No golf again today. Tournament shortened to 54 holes, 36 Sunday, 18 Monday.

Who would have thought the first two days of golf on Maui of all places would be wiped out by weather?

Only needed to read the bolded to know that you obviously didn't watch the coverage. They did the right thing; it's not like it was a gentle breeze. It was the worst conditions in which I have ever seen pros try to compete.

Besides, Simpson was nowhere near finished for the day and was in trouble on 8 and likely to bogey or worse. It's ridiculous when people say he got screwed when he had almost 2/3 of his round still to play.

Caught a few quick minutes of last year's replay and both Johnny and Nick Faldo were in the booth! Quite a step up from the scrubs ESPN used to send when they covered the event.

Greens weren't mowed so putting should be somewhat manageable. Even if scores are around par that's notable because they usually destroy this course.

No idea why people are trying to wear hats in that wind.

Gotta think they are going to pull them off course soon. If not though, Curtis is going to be in the 80 club.
