Hellmuth may be a pretty bad deep stack cash game player but he's still a tremendous MTT / HUSNG player. Take a look at his results over the last few years. The fact that the guy used to be a one-trick pony with NLHE and has now gone deep / won big events in mixed games speaks a lot of his talents.
wattt. lol no way man. he wouldn't stand a chance at profiting in husngs in todays poker climate. He would for sure be a loser at the $50 level, and probably lower. His game just has too many fundamental errors.
The main thing he has going for him is just picking up on live reads of strength/weakness. He is for sure great at that. But if he's playing good players, then he often owns himself cuz many times his lines to go after these players are v exploitable. Also going for him he has the big name fear factor when playing with fish, or the opposite where they will do anything to try and bust him.
And yes I played with him for 15+ hours in wsop events last year alone, aswell as my roomate busted him from the wsop main a couple year ago. sick brag etc.
I do think he is smart enough to be good at all forms of poker, but he doesn't exactly need the money or need to put in the work for that since he can still just play the Fish filled events and do quite well. He has no necessity to learn to be profitable at hu sngs or deep cash games.
Majority of people either wayyyyyy over rate Phil or wayyyyy under rate him. Both are easy to do because of his success and also because of the indisputable mistakes he continuously makes.
