Johnny was the best iron player I have ever seen. His long game was okay. His short game was good. And he was a good putter during his prime. He could go low with the best of them.
His demise was due entirely to his putting woes. He became the worst short-range putter on tour, probably missing more short putts than anyone other than Sam Snead. Of course, when your putting goes it affects your entire game.
Johnny, to his credit, won a couple of times late in his career even when his putting was pretty brutal.
