It's supposed to be tough to beat the GOAT.

Isn't Tiger's IQ also likely at least a standard deviation higher than Jack's?

Tiger isn't just the GOAT at striking a ball or putting or whatever. Or having the determination. He's also highly intelligent, isn't he? He's probably a spatial genius to be that good at reading lines.

I think most of these pro golfers are pretty smart in general. I'd guess the average IQ on tour is between 110-120? It's certainly well above the general population average.

Would you guys argue against Tiger being the greatest clutch putter of all time? Just curious

Tiger's ability to hit big putts down the stretch of tournaments during his prime is the only thing I've ever seen that makes me doubt my belief that being "clutch" doesn't really exist. It wasn't even human.

I think he would still be the GOAT even with no more wins or majors.

I would not argue that, for his first 10-11 years on tour he seemed to make every single putt he needed to make. He literally willed the ball in the hole it seemed.

Want to say his first big miss was on 15 at Augusta, can't remember the year. Missed a putt less than 4 feet in the last round. And then that near tap in he had to close out Nick O'Hern in the match play. Missed that then lost in extra holes. He hasn't been near as clutch since all the fallout.

That being said, I don't think he's the greatest putter of all time.

Who you got?

And is there any single facet of the game that you think tiger is the GOAT?

Best putter of all-time is Miles Hemsworth. A guy nobody but my great-grandpa and BO have heard of. Back in 1936 he was playing putt-putt at the Sioux City Holiday Inn and he proved he was the best ever.

What, you guys don't know Miles Hemsworth? LOL you lobotomized sheeple! Go read a scroll!

that wasn't too long ago. 4 footer for eagle. I think he 3-jacked 13 that day also. spent the remainder of the round pissed off and in a trance.

By my count, Tiger has played 66 majors and won 14. Jack won his 15th in his 75th attempt. For both guys, I'm including those majors they played in as amateurs.

If you take the amateur play out, Tiger has played 60, and Jack won his 15th in his 67th attempt. No matter how you slice it, Tiger will be on pace with Jack if he gets a major anytime between now and the consummation of next year's British Open (2014), i.e. he needs to win 1 out of the next 7.

Tiger needs to win his 18th by his 97th attempt to exceed or match Jack all-time, who won his 18th in his 97th attempt. We'll have to wait until

Masters 2022

(and that is assuming Tiger stays healthy and doesn't miss any majors between now and then) before we can say Jack is the GOAT. You simply can't say the guy who has put in more volume is more efficient -- that's illogical. And the criteria for GOAT is efficiency, a player's relative potency and superiority to other golfers. It's not like Tiger has an itsy bitsy sample size either, so taking a "let's wait and see how this young kid turns out" attitude is disingenuous at best.

If that 4 footer was for eagle I'll bet it was his playoff win in '05. Know for certain he finished birdie birdie bogey bogey to fall into a tie with DiMarco. Was thinking that 4 footer was for birdie therefore it couldn't have been '05.

1) Jack Nicklaus has lost 145 majors.

2) Tiger Woods has lost 52 majors.

3) Since Jack has lost three times as many majors as Tiger, Tiger is GOAT.

I am almost positive that the little putt Tiger missed on 15 was for birdie (a three putt) on the final round of the 2001 Masters. The day that Duval had like 8 or 9 birdies in the final round and missed a 6-footer on 18 for the (presumed) tie.

There are currently 49 international players in the Masters representing 20 countries, led by South Africa with eight invitees. There are a total of 93 golfers in this year's Masters.

NOTE: This week's Valero Texas Open winner will earn a spot in the Masters (if not already entered into the Masters).

I seem to remember this happening not that long ago. Maybe 2011? He shot like 31 on the front in the final round to get back into it and then missed a couple of short ones on the back to kinda have the round fizzle out?

Yea he 3 putted 12, hit it greenside on 13 and failed to get up and down, then missed like a 4 footer on 14 for birdie and proceeded to lip out the tap in par.

Pretty sure it was 2011

And I'm pretty sure he hit it close on 15 and then missed the eagle putt too.
