Obviously captain's picks shouldn't be the 11th and 12th guys otherwise why have captain's picks. I kinda hope it is Speith. I like everything about him and I confess I didn't know his am success/track record; that makes it less likely to just be rungood.

Spieth played with Phil on Monday's 62 so if Freddie solicits opinions from the other team members, I am sure that Phil will be supportive of Spieth's selection.

It's the President's Cup, not the Ryder Cup. People care a LOT less.

I hope Furyk gets picked. Yes, I'm the only one.

But if they pick him it will waste an extra hour of my life waiting for it to end...and who cares it's the Presidents Cup. Get the future some team experience for the Ryder Cup.

Cool. Time to give the younger, better players a shot

He's miserable to watch and chokes quite often under pressure, especially in recent memory.

Do you guys think Stenson will keep playing good? I remember Horschel earlier this season, in contention every tournament, then he won and disappeared.

FTR,

BTW, I was looking at the 1996 President's Cup wiki to see when it was held to wonder why Tiger didn't make it. It was held Sept 13, only 2 weeks after Tiger turned pro.

Then I noticed that Steve Stricker made the 1996 team. I'd forgotten that he was good in the 90s. Phil also made that team.

BTW, how many times did Spieth have to qualify this season vs sponsor's exemptions?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a minor slump now, he has been in contention week after week and finally won, might be a little less focused the next couple of tournaments.
Can't remember how he normally reacts, so I guess it can go both ways.

You have only so many exemptions and 5 or 6 times he was in the top 10 so auto qualified for the following week before he won giving him Fed Ex points.

He doesn't win an event and he doesn't even qualify for the the Fed Ex Cup.

Easy Rookie of the year and since he didnt start getting President Cup points till this year Freddie should pick him.

Curious if Freddie does consult Phil or Tiger for their thoughts?

I would say there is close to a 100% chance he consults the guys on the team about captains picks. Right?

They interviewed Nick PRice on Sunday and he confirmed he was talking to the players about who to make as captain's picks. Would be surprised if Couples didn't do the same.

I found this article that explains his year. I assume he used sponsor exemptions for the first 4 events of the year. (The article doesn't say, but does mention you only get 7 sponsor exemptions per year). But after he finished 7th in Tampa, he was made a "special temporary" PGA member, giving him unlimited sponsor exemptions the rest of the year.

Obviously, he became a full tour member for 2 years after he won at the John Deere.

Its interesting that Tiger's win in 1996 was worth $216,000 and Spieth's was worth $828,000 in 2013. I don't think the cost of most things increased almost 4x over that time. I wonder what was going on in the world of golf during those years?

The presence of Tiger increased the prize money tremendously. Tiger was 24th in money with $790k. Last year, 24th in money was $3,000k
