no idea

I doubt he would direct his anger at people around him.

also, pretty sure the getting pissed and cussing on the golf course thing is one of the things Tiger haters cite all the time as a reason to dislike him. In Stricker's case he was already unfriendly before this and never changed for the duration of the round.

He was also a huge dick on the putting green before the monday qualifier at quail hollow in 2010(I was caddying). I honestly dont hate many guys on tour, but hes certainly one of them. I hope he rots away on the web.com tour until he's 50, then gets hit by a car before he can play on the senior tour

He hasn't even been a pro for a year, you don't think that his UA deal was for more than 12 months? My understanding is he signed 5 year deals. Not sure if that is across the board or not, but I would be amazed if he isn't in UA for at least 3 years.

I've often wondered what kind of person I'd be if I had somehow caught fire in my golf career and made it to elite status. I'm pretty sure I would have detested signing autographs (one reason I've never asked for one). And being in the stratosphere of a Tiger Woods would be absolutely intolerable.

Yeah I have no idea. Would definitely make sense if they got him for 5 years but with how big he is getting, that really sucks for him.

Edit: Did a quick Google search to come up empty. All it said was multi year deal so yeah he will be in UA next year

Just noticed that Steve Stricker was comeback player of the year in 2006 . . . and 2007.

But if you've come back enough to warrant a comeback player of the year award in 2006, is he really "coming back" in 2007?

(FTR, he went from 162nd on money list in 2005 to 34th in 2006 to 4th in 2007.)

The Pernice rant about Tiger is a bit much but not completely wrong. That wouldn't be enough to get me to dislike him.

The caddy poll though IS really telling - a journeyman player picking up that much vote is no small feat.

I enjoyed CDL's share but have to imagine the setting is a factor to some degree with the Stricker thing. That doesn't forgive treating people poorly for no reason but it's his story up against seemingly countless others about what an all-around great guy he is. Errybody in the spotlight as much as the top pros are going to have some sort of fallout when they fail to be everything to everyone.

Does make me want to go back and reread that passage in The Majors though about how he blew the PGA at Sahalee to Vijay in 1998 and see just how much blame he assigned to his caddy for their uncertainty on that par-3 down the stretch which led to his demise.

I mean I am sure the UA deal is not getting Nike dough but I assume there are incentives, etc. in the contract that make the deal attractive. Also, I think UA is the the hot new brand and especially the young kids love it (I know I wear a lot of UA product too). I know it is not the behemoth that Nike is and probably doesn't throw around the $$$ like Nike but who's to say in 3-5 years they aren't in the same stratosphere. It's not like UA is some fly by night operation that has no presence in the sports landscape.

It’s so pathetic when people have to take positions just to get noticed. I fine if you feel the need to vote another way, but saying he's not in consideration is just absurd. How do these people keep their jobs? Seriously.

No UA isn't Nike, but 12 months ago Jordan didn't even get through 2nd stage so giving him 7 figures was quite a risk. Sure in hindsight it's genius, but watching him walk around TPC Craig Ranch decked out in UA stuff and then packing his car after missing wasn't very sexy.

I think both sides have to be pretty happy. I can guarantee you his contract kicked into full dollar figures once he gained his PGA Tour status. It was probably a great down payment for a guy with no status to have cash and travel well to chase the Tour and once he got status it turned into a money bomb.

Agree with Ship..also I guess my point is that for younger people...teens, 20 somethings, etc. UA is to them what Nike was to my generation. I may be biased in this because of where I live but UA is definitely the hotter, sexier brand for younger people. I remember when Nike was a start up pre-MJ and it was the hot brand then. UA looks like they are that brand now.

And Spieth I'm sure was thrilled to get the cash when he had no idea where he would be playing in 2013

Not for Player of the Year it doesn't. It's not the Best Player in the Majors. It's Player of the Year, over the course of 30+ events. As mentioned earlier, the POY hasn't won a major in 3 of the last 4 years, so obviously the players are intelligent enough to know that winning a major isn't automatically a requirement.

Reading the last few pages of this thread, you people have insanely thin skin. You are coming up with some extremely nitty reasons to hate people. I mean, "being a dick on the putting green" or being unfriendly during the round and cursing in his caddie's direction, wow? I hear worse from people in my personal life on a daily basis. Lighten up.

I work this tournament every year for NBC getting yardages.. Love this tournament.. If Tiger bails due to his bad back I'm going to be pretty tilted, not gonna lie. Who do we like this week? I want to place some degen bets for sure!

Very good post. It has become evident since you posted that your Pernice dislike isn't all that random at all.

Where'd you hear Webb's political thoughts? I watch a ton of events so I too have been subjected to the post-round Jesus Is My Copilot garbage, but don't recall politics entering the fray.

Feinstein clearly wen out of his way during his opening statements to make sure not to go anywhere near Tiger's name. Utterly ridiculous IMO. To act like he's not even in the picture is comical, even if you believe he won't/shouldn't win it. Also, including Dufner if he can "play his way into it" over the final three tournaments is pretty LOL - other than the PGA he's really not had all that good a season.

It goes both ways, if a pro spends an hour telling you why your swing sucks, he makes a "fan for life". Like/dislike among sports figures is pretty finicky. Casualfans love to make either idols or villains out of these guys when in 99.9% of circumstances they fit neither description. They are just some dude doing a job.

Yeah no ****. There's nothing wrong with that though. I'm just a guy who watches golf on TV. I don't actually think any of the bible study crew are bad people in the slightest, I just enjoy watching the game more when I am cheering for one person over another so I pick a side and tend to stick with guys that I have fun sweating. It's not like I owe anyone my support

I was just commenting on his "thin skin" comment. The thin skin works both ways, that's all. He shouldn't get all bent out of shape because people hate someone for wearing tight clothes when they might love a player because they saw them give a child a high five in the middle of a round of 76 or something.

I'm not bent out of shape at all, I haven't put five seconds of thought in my entire life into caring about anyone from this site other than those I know IRL. I'm making discussion by pointing out how easily offended people are getting over nothing. People here clearly have thin skin, and it's site-wide, not just in the golf forum. You have people who hate Steve Stricker because he cursed once 12 years ago, or rant and rave about guys b/c they use two sentences in a post-round interview to talk about Jesus. I understand that this is 2p2, but it's not normal to announce that you hate someone for this stuff.
