Only if he gets Stevie back on the bag. Maybe it will happen after they ban the long putter?

Stevie (and his broomstick) back up to number 2 in the world rankings. Wonder if he can regain number 1 before the anchoring ban?

President's Cup update with one week to go:

----------

TEAM USA

Clinched an automatic spot:

1. Tiger Woods - 22,593,771
2. Brandt Snedeker - 14,998,127
3. Phil Mickelson - 14,880,474
4. Matt Kuchar - 14,298,415
5. Keegan Bradley - 10,482,684
6. Jason Dufner - 10,415,972
7. Bill Haas - 10,353,876

In position for an automatic spot / possible Captain's picks if they miss:

8. Hunter Mahan - 9,712,188
9. Webb Simpson - 9,137,636
10. Zach Johnson - 9,078,762

Can play their way on next week / possible Captain's picks:

11. Steve Stricker - 8,703,084
12. Dustin Johnson - 8,681,908
13. Jim Furyk - 8,579,663
14. Bubba Watson - 8,136,908

Mathematically alive to automatically qualify (all need to win next week, and get a little help from #9-#13 on the current list):

15. Billy Horschel - 6,956,635
16. Kevin Streelman - 6,836,697
17. Rickie Fowler - 6,634,176
18. D.A.Points - 6,557,015
19. Nick Watney - 6,455,102

Possible Captain's Pick:

Jordan Spieth

---

Deutsche Bank Championship Points:
1st - 2,880,000
2nd - 1,728,000
3rd - 1,088,000
4th - 768,000
5th - 640,000
---
10th - 432,000
20th - 208,000
70th - 32,000

If I'm the Captain, Spieth is on my team for a few reasons. He's obviously in great form. There's a pretty good chance he's going to qualify for the Ryder Cup next year, and it'd be nice to get him some experience on the International stage. And regardless of if he's on the team or not, the US will be a huge favorite. The one thing that might sway me would be if Tiger lobbies hard for Stricker, because I think I want DJ on my team too.

I bet Couples is rooting really hard that someone like Streelman or Points doesn't bink next week.

------------
------------

INTERNATIONAL TEAM

The International Team just uses the OWGR. These were the standings coming into the week:

1. Adam Scott - 7.93
2. Ernie Els - 4.57
3. Charl Schwartzel - 4.57
4. Jason Day - 4.57
* 5. Louis Oosthuizen - 4.46
6. Hideki Matsuyama - 3.36
7. Branden Grace - 3.17
8. Richard Sterne - 3.00
9. Angel Cabrera - 2.54
10. Tim Clark - 2.33
--
11. Thongchai Jaidee - 2.24
12. Marc Leishman - 2.16
13. George Coetzee - 1.98
x 14. Graham DeLaet - 1.94
15. Kiradech Aphibarnrat - 1.89
16. Brendonde Jonge - 1.81
17. Brett Rumford - 1.79
18. Geoff Ogilvy - 1.78
19. Marcus Fraser - 1.76
20. Hiroyuki Fujita - 1.75

I'd guess #1 thru #8 have more or less clinched a berth, though I'd be surprised if Oosthuizen plays - he's been injured for a while. So the International Team may get three Captain's Picks. Also, I'd think there's a decent chance Graham DeLaet cracked the Top 10 this week with his T2, but I'm sure he'd be a Captain's Pick anyway given his recent play, so it really doesn't matter.

There are a few other guys like John Senden, Sang Moon Bae, KJ Choi, and Matt Jones that could potentially be Captain's Picks on the International squad as well.

-----------

This could potentially be a rout. The International Team sucks.

Man Adam Scott's got 10 PGA wins now. I wonder if he can get to 20 and get his lifetime exemption.

Dude. I know what I said. He was down 2 shots with 2 to play and I said he'd birdie 17 then hole out on his 2nd shot (note I said 2nd shot here instead of just hole out from the fairway - which could be his 2nd OR 3rd if it were a par 5) from the fairway to win by 2.

Yes, I was wrong. I wasn't paying that close attention. Better attack my math skills to feel better about living in Oklahoma.

Wait til you guys see Chesson Hadley. Biggest douchebag on the golf course youve ever seen. It will be interesting to see if he tones it down on tour, but some of his antics on the egolf tour were LOL.

Good to see Malnati on that list. Here's a guy who had no status at the beginning of the year, mondays in a couple times and wins a few weeks ago. He's been grinding it out on the mini tours, glad he's getting a shot at the big stage.

I was just going to say "Chesson" has to be the whitest name I've ever heard. I don't know anything about the guy but I've heard his name before and laugh at how douchey and white it sounds.

They published the updated money list

Tiger is 2.99 million ahead of Phil in second place.

The only people who even have a chance to catch him in PoY (points version) are the people who've won majors this year (because majors are worth 3 normal tour tour victories):

Scott is 3.57 million behind
Rose is 4.53 million behind
Dufner is 5.54 million behind

Rose and Dufner have zero shot. Even if one of them wins each of the next 3 tournaments, they can only tie Tiger in tournament points. Neither can beat Tiger on the money list, even if Tiger doesn't play any of the last 3 tourneys. So it's all up to Scott and Phil.

Too bad for Tiger that the Emmys doesn't have a category for "outstanding dramatic performance in a golf tournament" because he would have that on LOCK DOWN.

In case anyone didn't notice, he had some back pain the last couple of days.

Aside from that, weirdest final round I can remember off the top of my head. Remarkable how many got to or above Scott's eventual -11 winning number only to back off and end up below it. In the case of Kevin Chappell, way way below it. And it's not really the course because 13-18 aren't particularly difficult holes. 13, 14, and 16 in particular are easy by their standards. Just a lot of top pros failing.

Would have been nice to get a Rose - Scott playoff but lol Rose, three putting 18 from close range is the kind of **** I would pull.

Yeah, I like the idea of Spieth as a pick for reasons you state, hope he goes with him. Would rather see that than DJ. Stricker presumably has an inside track on another pick - is generally playing well in his limited schedule, is currently in the 11th spot, and this could well be his last chance at international competition.

The Int'l team used to be absolutely stacked and stronger on paper than the US team, but for whatever reason still couldn't win. Not going to look up OWGR but they had peak Vijay, Ernie, Goosen back during that period when they were anointed three of the "big five" at the time when Goosen was winning US Opens, Vijay was world #1, and Ernie was hanging around and taking the occasional major. There was also K.J. Choi at his best, Adam Scott, Tim Clark, Allenby and Appleby. But then they'd lose anyway.

I think any difference in competitiveness has less to do with that side though, more like the US team is probably a lot more talented than it was at that time. No randos like Brett Wetterich or Jeff Overton taking RC or PC spots, the qualifiers are legit and there is a much deeper pool to choose captain's picks from.

Really? The purse would be nowhere near the list of top reasons for him to play - he could probably make more than that in appearance fees over the four days if he wanted.

Are you disputing this? He's always had a great swing and drove the ball extremely well, it's the stick he's chosen to use on the greens that has changed things for the better.

Also be honest, you kept going through Scott's putting year by year until you found something you could post to fit what you were wanting to say. Funny stuff.
What golf do you follow that includes Adam Scott "draining putts 24/7"? He's 84th on Tour in Strokes Gained Putting and 53rd in Total Putting. He makes 49.6% of his putts between 5' and 10'.

Adam Scott did used to suck with the short putter.

Also Adam Scott just blew up everyone who thought Phil was PoY right? Masters + playoff + rest of his year > Phil's year

But obviously both <<<<< Tiger's year

Why does he bother playing any non-major, then?

He plays well at this tourney (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and two 11ths). Though he also plays well at the BMW (two firsts, 15th, and 4th).

As of now, Scott is 4 points ahead of Phil in the PoY race, but 28 points behind Tiger.
