So they can get as many holes in as possible. Obv not gonna finish, but they will be able to get a few holes in and that will free up more time in the morning.

Is it me or is this playoff points/scoring system sub-optimal?

Earlier when Tiger was T7 his projected points total was 2nd place (entered 1st). Jason Day, who entered at 14th, and was leading the tourney was projected to move all the way to #1.

So a guy with 1 win all year would be #1 and a dude with 5 wins and a 7th place in this tourney would be #2. Seems legit.

Depends on what you think the points system should accomplish.

Yeah I mean I'm guessing this gets talked about every year. This will be the first year I've followed the FedEx cup. Tried to last year but didn't really understand it and didn't take much effort to do so. This year I want to watch though.

Yup. Gotta try to be in the top 5 going into the tour championship. Any one of those guys control their own destiny. Win the tour championship and be within the top 5 entering and you win the fedex cup.

Fwiw, I think the point system is definitely messed up, but it is what it is.

Going on Saturday and Sunday. Went in '09, had a great time, hoping for a similar close finish. Course is nice although offers little shade and it's going to be in the 80's that day, so meh.

Most interesting thing about this tournament on Thurs/Fri is seeing someone random on the telecast like George McNeill, Justin Hicks, or Steven Bowditch who hasn't been a factor all year, and wondering how the **** this person is in the Playoffs.

It is messed up, and was even more messed up the first couple of years before the provision you mention above was added, but it can never be perfect. There will either be too much emphasis on the regular season, or too much on the postseason, and there will always have the be the chance that someone who wins only one or two tournaments between both seasons wins the entire thing.

Only possible move they could make would be adding a 5th playoff tournament, with the top 10 after The Tour Championship, and making the order of finish in that tournament the final order of finish for the whole season. Problem with that is that a 10 player tournament would be corny, and the Tour Championship would cease being known as such. You'd also still face the potential problem of the final 10-man event being someone's only win of the season, yet they win an overall title.

I did not know that Camilo Vaginas was still playing, much less qualified for the playoffs.

That's not even the worst part--which is that points get reset for the last tourney. So much for Tiger's 766 point lead.

It was a lot more fair until Vijay Singh won it. That year he won the first two events, finished well in the third and had it all wrapped up before the Tour Championship. Since the Fedex Cup was supposed to enthrall viewers of all levels through the entire run, it was tweaked so that couldn't happen again.

But on day 2, the first groups start at 7:10 am and the second groups start at noon.

Today, the first groups start at 7:10 am. Then 4 groups start at 11:08 am. Then the next group doesn't start until 5:20 pm. That six hour break is just odd. Though I suppose it was done to allow people to go to the club after work.

Either a level of epic proportions or someone who watches very little golf.

Why is that? Apparently Gus didn't realize they had already moved the afternoon tee times due to the rain delay. Simple mistake.

Anybody who watches golf knows that if there's a tee time at 6pm a delay of some sort is involved.
