This isn't much of a stretch since his weekend ineptitude when in or near the lead has been on display for several straight majors and the more courageous announcers aren't afraid to point it out.
It's true though at some point when hanging around this often he HAS to win eventually, whether it be via overcoming the mental block, everyone else failing worse, or backing into a win a la Ernie last year or Ben Curtis ten years ago. Like a pro popping his cherry and winning getting easier after the first one I imagine that would do great things for his race to 19.

As much as I wanted to see Zach Johnson, the local favorite, defend his title it is pretty great not just that Spieth won but he went on to win after the one hop holeout out on 18. That would be a much less memorable shot both for him and the tournament if he didn't.
EDIT: to expand, the shot went from an obscure footnote to one the PGA Tour will show a couple of mirrion times going forward to promote their latest new star - not that I blame them.
